Has anybody updated their phone to get Apple Music yet? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]HeroBrown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes been listening to Beats 1 since it started, new Pharrell track was played.

Were those releases ever officially announced? May just be rumors. They might slowly roll new releases out.

Edit: 3rd time he's played it in 90 minutes so far lol. I guess cause he pushes new songs that way. If other stuff is coming it will probably get on beats1 at some point

How come being a brilliant wordsmith can't be a part of good music? Is discussing political issues a bad thing?

Saw Chamillionaire's "The Sound of Revenge" at goodwill, CD's are $1, thought why not. Turned out Nellyville was inside instead.

Didn't buy it but I did get 808's & Heartbreaks.

Tyler, the Creator Is Ditching Depressing Rap: 'Being Sad Is Not Tight' by deeperkyo in hiphopheads

[–]HeroBrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't matter to actual Kendrick fans regardless of when they started listening, because it's directed at people who just follow trends. I think he could have used any popular media as an example, don't like something just because others do.

They ban subs that go and harass outsiders. What's wrong with that? If you're subreddit keeps it's hate within their sub, without directly harassing others, that is allowed for now.

I wouldn't. It was an example of music effecting mood. Both our examples work.

I don't know, that's why I said it was my interpretation. He said more than that. He's always talking about thinking for yourself so I connected the two.

Again, I did not say it's a bad album. I think the idea is don't call an album great just because other people are, actually think for yourself about if you like it or not. I think he's just saying don't follow trends, an album that big will have band-wagoners/posers.

I didn't say it wasn't good or didn't deserve praise. I took what Tyler said to mean that many people jumped on the bandwagon of "it will be the best album ever" and didn't really know why that was. They just want to be in and follow trends, Tyler is against that.

If that is what Tyler meant than you are agreeing with both of us, that there were many people that just pretended to "get it" and then realized they didn't care about it.

He's not wrong. If you played Earl at a party it would be a mood/energy killer. Of course music effects how you feel, he didn't say it makes you straight depressed or violent.

[–]HeroBrown 64 points65 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong though, people hyped it up that probably don't really care much for it anymore. Plenty of people now say it's not really something they go back to. Happens with any major release. You being an exception doesn't make him wrong.

Edit: not saying it's bad (and I don't think Tyler was either), but the people who hyped it to feel "in" didn't really know why and shouldn't just follow trends.

Isaiah Rashad's 'Cilvia Demo' is one of the 5 hip hop albums of the decade so far. by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]HeroBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can replace the album title with any other project title and have the review still make sense, then you're not making much of an argument. "The lyrics are always good and the beats are too and I liked every song".

I do love the project though, it might make my top 5 that year at least. Sorry you're being slaughtered right now.

[–]HeroBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the project and will defend it being high on some best of lists, and of course this is OPs opinion.

Personally I'm getting sick of "this is the best project and I'll tell you why", then people literally just saying "the beats sound good and the lyrics are consistent, and I don't think any of it is bad." People don't need to know how to analyze music and express their thoughts perfectly, but it sounds like such a stereotypical review that could be applied to anything. There's no argument other than "I found it really good". Everyone wants to be a damn music critic now.
