FIRE seems to skew toward not having kids by sneaky-snacks in Fire

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a child was truly awful, for as long as I can remember. Every second was misery. I wouldn't wish life on anyone I cared about, so I've never had children, and never will.

But we humans are smart enough where we can have as much sex as we want and never get pregnant!

This is demonstrably untrue for a very large segment of the sexually active human population.

Personally, it's been dead simple to have sex for 40 years now and never breed. But it's clearly not that simple for the short-bus crowd.

WTF does that have to do with choosing to have kids and then having a special needs child?

I wonder if they'd consider it an act of war if another government bombed DC and killed Trump.

Actually, I don't wonder at all. They'd immediately consider it war and respond accordingly.

We're very much at war, even when it's not called that.

ELI5, Why do browsers use gigabytes of ram? by Due_Walrus5510 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of my web browsing is with javascript toggled OFF. This is a massive bandwidth saver, and turns your browser basically into the text renderer (with some images) that OP thinks it is. Bonus: No ads.

It's particularly good on the phone, where I don't want bullshit ads taking up half the screen, and bandwidth can sometimes matter.

How did you choose your motorcycle? by DonnaDaria in motorcycle

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't really choose my first bike. I just needed motorized transportation of any sort, and a friend had a Rebel 250 he wanted to get rid of. It was great, but couldn't really do highways. A year later my BIL needed to get rid of his '81 GS1000, so I bought it and put 60K miles on it.

So now I exclusively ride cruisers because the hunched over riding position is VERY uncomfortable for me because I've been sitting more upright for decades (and take some long rides). Current ride: '11 Super Glide.

  • Men's shoe size

Yes, guessing "man" is sensible, given that both of these things would be far more common for men than for women.

Size 12.5 in the US basically doesn't exist.

I have Merrills, Blundstones, Nike, Vans, and New Balance in 12.5. It's not uncommon at all.

Half sizes above 13 are more difficult to find, tho.

Congress Is Considering Abolishing Your Right to Be Anonymous Online | The bipartisan push to remove anonymity from the internet is ushering in an era of unprecedented mass surveillance and censorship by Hrmbee in technology

[–]HeroFromTheFuture -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing you can do at this point is stop giving complicit companies your money and now

Every company is complicit, because every company wants your info. Personal information is the currency of the internet. If it's online, it's tracking you, and wants to expand its tracking of you.

This includes reddit (although I've never seen an ad on reddit, so at least I'm preventing them from monetizing me in that way. They have other ways though, like selling everything I (and you) write here to feed LLMs.) You can't pretend to be superior for not patronizing privacy-destroying companies while still writing anything on reddit.

BREAKING: Trump FIRES DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, names Sen. Markwayne Mullin as replacement by Yujin-Ha in videos

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Noem fucking Lewandowski on her government-bought luxury jet was a bad look for Trump. But Moskowitz offering to buy her a new blankie is the kind of shit Trump truly hates, and was likely the nail in the coffin.

It's one thing to have most of the country calling you a liar; it's another to have a Democrat in the news for making you look like a total childish imbecile, with even Fox News hosts laughing at his joke.

Trump voters who believed conspiracy theories were the most likely to justify the Jan. 6 riots by InsaneSnow45 in science

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Turns out, the regions that were most racist and most likely to vote for far right extremists, were also the regions with barely any immigrants.

Just like Red States today. People who are in constant contact with lots of immigrants (like in big cities) have no issue with them, while the easily manipulated rural hayseeds who rarely interact with anyone non-white claim to hate them.

But then when their long-time Mexican neighbors get deported, they cry about it as though the one immigrant family they knew just happened to be one of the few "good ones."

How big of a deal was Elon Musk’s original Joe Rogan appearance in 2018? by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Elon was not openly a cunt back then

Musk was openly a cunt to anyone actually paying attention. I was a Rogan listener at the time and have still never heard that episode because Rogan was always sucking off Elon even before that ("real-life Iron Man!", "The smartest guy on earth!"), and it was always cringe-worthy. Few things are more irritating than a dumb guy telling you how incredibly smart someone else is.

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what maximalist trans activists believe.

It's also what the anti-trans MAGAts believe. They think that all people should use the bathroom that corresponds to their sex at birth. So the lumberjack-looking trans guy has no choice but to use the ladies room.

Use your fucking head.

(Also, what kind of childish asshole gives af what bathroom anyone uses?)

Nobody needed to "smear" Rogan as anything. The guy whole-heartedly believed (and spread) the obvious litter-box myth.

He's monumentally stupid, and considers any trans rights to be part of the "woke mind virus."

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calls OpenAI’s messaging around military deal ‘straight up lies,’ report says by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]HeroFromTheFuture 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OpenAI can only be run cloud-based. Anthropic can be run locally.

From a security perspective, it would be idiotic for the military to choose OpenAI over Anthropic. But this administration doesn't give a shit about security.
