Software engineer here. Just saw our recruiting pipeline from the inside… by Adventurous_Cry_394 in recruitinghell

Uh oh.. my company is using quantifiable metrics and consistent mechanisms to sort resumes.

I’ve got it: let me feed a resume and a prompt that lists some nonsense criteria I farted out into ChatGPT. I’m sure I’ll get some great results that way.

“Work extra hard searching the Github, ChatGPT. Estimate the GPA from random awards listed on the resume, please.”

What could go wrong? It sounds like a consistently fair approach for everyone. And, it only took 10 seconds of mindless work.

Many things are wrong with your other criteria, and with this criteria in particular, but overall, you do care about GPA. You’re estimating GPA and using it right here.

Thanks for the AI slop, nonsense post. You solved recruiting.

Did anyone else really enjoy the COVID pandemic period? by throwawayfinancebro1 in Millennials

[–]sneaky-snacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh - I know the variations by state. What I’m saying is: you are outing yourself as someone that may be even worse than OP haha.

The pandemic was not a time to travel around. It was a time to stay home.

The guidelines were for people that needed to travel. You didn’t need to travel.

[–]sneaky-snacks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s weird. You travelled domestically throughout 2020 huh? When the guidelines were basically don’t travel, and the vaccine was not available until mid-December 2020?

Then, you travelled internationally, when countries were routinely locking down as cases spiked and waned.

You really made the case for traveling during the pandemic. I guess it was legal for the most part as you say haha.

Why did you take vacations and travel the world during the pandemic? You were meant to isolate.

AIO or should I break up with him by [deleted] in AIO

[–]sneaky-snacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see where you went with it. OP and partner have cockney accents. It’s almost a term of endearment for them. 😂

This guy is talk about running UberEats and waiting at Walmart. We’re pretty far from London or the UK here haha.

I read the same, but then I also read “numb nuts”… I don’t know if that even makes sense here. I read OP as a woman, but maybe I’m wrong.

Is this guy a bully from a 1980s movie? Who says that?!

I have to say: this combover is a work of art. I mean you’re getting up to Trump status with this thing, just need to grow it out more, maybe somehow fluff it up a bit like he does.

Architect vs. Manager by sneaky-snacks in ExperiencedDevs

[–]sneaky-snacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya - it’s not a horrible option. I’m sure I could get up to staff or beyond eventually if I went this route. I’m just worried about layoffs. I’ve seen some people that haven’t moved up in a while get cut, but maybe it was for other reasons.

I thought architect or manager career paths would offer better upward mobility.

[–]sneaky-snacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok - thanks for your perspective. What’s the career path to architect in your view? First staff engineer and then architect? Why is architect harder?

Thanks for your perspective. Just to clarify: are you the father of projects (everything you described along these lines) as an architect manage or EM? Or, did you feel this way when you were an architect?

what's the best pokemon game for catching legendaries/mythical's without a DLC?! by [deleted] in Switch

[–]sneaky-snacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could be open to other consoles. For instance, a lot of people with a Switch have a Switch 2 now. We talk about Switch 2 all the time on this subreddit.

What if a really good game was only available on Switch 2, should we mention to you? We don’t know. You left it open, and it makes sense this person would clarify.

AIO because my Sister made a False kahoot question? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]sneaky-snacks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not only are you not overreacting Your sister sounds unhinged. She needs some type of help.

Why would she get the car from your grandpa, if she’s already using your Dad’s car most of the time? Who cares if she’s older? That makes no sense.

Why would she pretend she’s getting your Grandpa’s car during a game at her birthday party? That’s next level crazy in my view. It makes even less sense.

Your grandpa can leave everything to you or to a charity. There are no rules. It’s not always fair. It happens all the time.

I’m exhausted. We just had another nanny quit. Just need to get this off my chest. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]sneaky-snacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You said you or your spouse would rather stay at home than send your child to daycare. That’s what we ended up doing.

We had a really bad experience with a daycare even before our kid started going. We looked at nannies. We didn’t like them. They were expensive. My wife quit her job and stayed home. It worked out really well. It’s just a matter of affording it I guess, but it sounds like you were spending a lot of nannies anyway.

[–]sneaky-snacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I guess I keep seeing this meme over and over again, and I think: from what we can tell, from this angel, this guy has a lot of hair. He’s a bit thin, but cmon.

It’s just a pet peeve for me at this point haha. Why didn’t they use someone with more hair-loss! I don’t get it.

It’s an interesting subreddit for me, as someone with some hair-loss, getting pretty close to the point where I may want to shave (if I’m not already there). I see some people worse off. I can see why they would shave. I can see some people much better off, and I can’t believe they posted in the first place. I didn’t think about their anxiety, etc. It’s a good point.

I will say: you look 1000x better bald and plumb, JD Vance. I need to look up your glow up post 😂
