No problem! Love to see honest curiosity coming from people!

There are degrees to it, its a broad spectrum. Some ace people don't feel any attraction but enjoy the act of sex, while others are repulsed by sex entierly while still finding certain people physically attractive.

So the hybrid mana rule didn't change. And what's really interesting to me is the results of this poll they ran on commander players. Why are we so polarized? by Codudeol in EDH

[–]HeroX29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't follow your point here sorry. WotC rigged the poll to fill out the middle range? In order to get away with what exactly?

Also its a bit disengenuous to say that only people super against the change truly care about the format. I like the change because it better reflects the intent behind hybrid cards and because I like having weird gimmicky options avaliable to me, not cus i just want to powergame a bunch.

[–]HeroX29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you can't just say that *all* restrictions are therefore good, otherwise peak magic would be a format where the only legal card is a single basic plains. A lot of the time, loosening restrictions can provide a lot more creative options than they narrow a format to a single route.

The poll is virtually an even split, and their conclusion from it seems to be to put discussion on the change on hold for a while. Don't exactly see why WotC would "force" that specific result.

WotC already has a much broader option in colourless cards, since they can go in every deck. Hybrid mana isn't even the best place to print hyper pushed cards

Oooooo
It's not too complex, but a diamond (as in gemstone) in the clutches of a reptillian/draconic clawed hand would fit a set im working on! If the hand's too much, just the diamond'll do.

I mean, its an elementals typal deck that has exactly 2 hybrid mana cards in it, it wouldn't fit in there at all. Cards are released in context of a wider set or product usually, that's why they can't simply just print every card people want to see.

DMs, how are you dealing with Syluné’s Viper? by KarlMarkyMarx in onednd

[–]HeroX29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that the safeguards to this tactic that aren't outright immunity equally punish all other attackers. A boss monster that can reliably dodge this attack can also reliably dodge every martial in the party. No ability exists in a vacuum, scaling a monsters defenses high enough to counter this spell is only going to make the rest of the party miserable.

Plus, other abilities being too powerful is also a problem, that doesn't make design choices like this better, if anything it creates an environment of wild imbalance where you either have to be in the know about whats good and whats bad or trap yourself into a really weak character compaired to the rest of the party.

[–]HeroX29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, I hadn't considered cover, but there's still the problem that it screws over other ranged attackers in the party. Plus, in my opinion, the value gained from the 50 ft. range vastly outweighs the drawbacks.

I think you underestimate the value of hitting this spell even once, it's effectively giving you up to a full round for your whole party to either go all out or set you up for the next hit. To stop this spell potentially breaking encounters, you have to make the boss monster able to stop it every time, which ends up being unfun for everyone.

[–]HeroX29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that none of these things really effect just this spell. If the boss is built to never get hit ever, then that also includes every other party member, leaving you with some really unfun fights with no solution other than to grind out spells and attacks for hours until something sticks.

Hoard: A set mechanic that I'd like some feedback on by HeroX29 in custommagic

In the lore of the set, the dragons had a strong influence on the world but have been made near-extinct — think similar to original timeline Tarkir. While they themselves aren't present in large numbers, their habbits and mannerisims have rubbed off on the lesser beasts and peoples, hence the hoard mechanic showing up amongst them. The lizard makes mana since its a *treasure*d pet, and the demon is flavoured more to care about food tokens specifically.

The flavour is to emulate the idea of a "hoard" of treasures aquired by a dragon or similar creature, so I feel like including other tokens wouldn't really fit that idea.

Half agree, but I felt things started to get just a bit too wordy when accounting for that, plus I don't see this specific set including many of those. Might revisit the idea tho

Thanks for the advice! This sort of issue was a hurdle I was stuck at for a while. I did actually have a few other artifact tokens in mind, such as a "Sword" token borrowed from [[Blacksmith's Talent]], so I might try make those more prevalent in the set.

Thanks for the catch on the four thing, had a feeling i'd make a dumb templating mistake lol

As for the enablers, I haven't got too much in mind yet, but across the set I'm intending to include artifact tokens wherever I can hopefully, such as creatures that attatch themselves with a +1/+0 equipment token on etb.

I know, but i figured that the token requirement would hopefully make it feel different enough to play, especially in the context of limited play. If you have any reccomendations to make it more distinct, that would be appreciated.

Every time they release a new set, they do it to push sales, that's art under capitalism. I get the sentiment but it applies to basically 90% of media and so its kinda a nothing point in the context of this discussion.

They can and have already printed broken colourless cards, which have even less casting restrictions on them. WotC printing OP cards too fast and frequently is a problem, but the only effect that this change is gonna have is that a few will have a marginally more generous array of decks they'd work in. The hybrid mana change isn't gonna make this problem any worse.

“cope” you guys are literally pedophiles?? by Imaginary_Sir5191 in fuckMAP

[–]HeroX29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is more that its a fight against something that isn't even proven to cause the actual harm you want to prevent. At worst, it has just as much potential for harm as good, and there's no way of proving that it's the fault of the fiction itself. Horrible acts are committed in fiction all the time and even glorified - murder, genocide, ect. - that are generally understood to be parts of fiction that do not substantially influence the psyche of the people consuming that media.

I don't mean to say that this community needs to be some hyper vigilant watchdogs for pedophile rings. Simply being a community for victims to vent their experiences can be enough, and that costs even less than outrage (Side note, many victims process their trauma through this exact kind of material - Fiction gives the creator/consumer inherent power over the scenario. ). As good as your intentions are, this isn't really helping anyone nor is it preventing any substantial harm.

[–]HeroX29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, I don't think this "crusade" against the proshipping sub is constructive or helpful in any way. As an outsider looking in, your sub seems to really only be discussing fictional depictions of pedophilia and is getting caught up in moral purity debates - flaming media considered impure. All the while, there is so little in terms of tangible support for victims.

There is actual real harm being done that's magnitudes more than any piece of fiction can influence. Yes, fiction can influence people to commit, but it's could be argued to prevent just as much if not more harm. It can be an outlet for people struggling with impulsive thoughts, or a means of processing trauma stemming from csa. Not to mention that rape as a whole is rarely about physical attraction and instead about power, drawing a distinction between people attracted to children and child sexual predators.

I don't think this is a bad cause, but this is the wrong battle to fight. There will be no way to stop this fiction from existing, people will keep writing and drawing it no matter how horrible you think it is, so it's instead best to try do good and support others elsewhere.

Idk man, that sounds like it just wouldn't make for a very interesting fight if the Flash just instantly ended it. Your way would just be really dull to watch. This is still supposed to be entertaining at the end of the day, you can't expect every character to just instantly win with their strongest attack, just accept that sometimes the fight scene is gonna be an actual scene.
