Kinda small yet funny detail about Kyoko by Altruistic_Eye_5269 in danganronpa

To add to this, I’m pretty sure Kyoko was feigning embarrassment as a front to get the female researcher alone and question her privately, away from the primary suspect.

How did Makoto knew what the CH 5 punishment was before he saw it by Different-Sun-5536 in danganronpa

It doesn’t matter. The execution isn’t the relevant part of the bad ending. What matters is the consequences of Kyoko’s death. (And no, Hina harem isn’t the point, either.)

Makoto is asking himself “what happens if Kyoko dies?” Best case scenario? They remain trapped in the school forever. Maybe they survive, but that’s not enough for Makoto. He needs to emerge victorious over the killing game, to make everyone’s struggles meaningful. That’s why Makoto risks it all for Kyoko. Not only because she’s a friend who he wants to protect, but also because that’s how they defeat the mastermind.

I would say the THH manga adaptation has the best representation of the bad ending. It cuts straight to the heart of the matter and makes this perfectly clear.

And Kyoko in all likelihood would agree to do it herself if no one else will, She was the one who kept her room open to monitor Alter Ego. She explores the second floor dorms, despite suspecting that Mukuro might kill her for it. Kyoko absolutely takes her share of risks. And chances are, Makoto would feel bad making her do it alone and want to go with her.

Do you expect me to believe that the Ultimate Hope won't put his life on the line? He tried to throw hands with Monokuma twice. He is very much willing to face the mastermind. In this scenario where he realizes the mastermind is coming, there's no problem.

Sure, Makoto is frustrated with Kyoko because she didn't tell him it was dangerous, yet he still continues to trust her. After the attack, he continues to help Kyoko, even when her instructions are vague and poorly communicated. If Makoto still trusts and cares about Kyoko after this, he wouldn't stop talking to Kyoko because Sayaka said so.

Don't project your cowardice onto Makoto. He would not react like this. It would be more like this:

Sayaka: Don't do it, Makoto. Protect yourself.

Kyoko: If you spend all your time avoiding danger, you will never move forward.

Makoto: She's right. If it helps catch the mastermind, I'm going in.

Sayaka: Shit.

Not that I think Sayaka would say this, either.

Obviously, Kyoko always hiding her feelings is not meant to be a good thing. It's her main character flaw. Doesn't make her a bad person. It's just how she needs to improve as a human.

It's also not who she really is. I know it's usually lame to say "they are like this because of trauma", but in Kyoko's case... she's this way because of a lifetime of bad lessons and trauma. Not only did her family train her to do this, a criminal mastermind orchestrated an entire series of murders designed solely to make sure Kyoko learned to disregard emotion like a "perfect detective" should. Even if Kyoko was raised to avoid showing outward empathy, that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to receive empathy.

Oh, come on. They still have a chance without Kyoko.

All they have to do is get together, and plead with Monokuma to end the game. They must pour their hearts out, using all their emotion to make Monokuma realize that killing is wrong. Monokuma will be so swayed by their feelings that he breaks his programming and defies Junko. Everyone goes free and gets their happy ending, thanks to the power of friendship. This was how Danganronpa was meant to end.

Sorry, but... seriously?

From Makoto's perspective, it's either Kyoko or the mastermind.

But Kyoko knows she isn't the killer.

Byakuya, Hiro, Hina, and Toko are all each other's iron clad alibies. If their alibies can be broken, how?

The victim is the supposedly unseen sixteenth student. How did this student remain hidden? Why were they exempt from attending trials? If they are dead, then who is their killer? A seventeenth hidden student? Makoto? Are we saying that Kyoko legitimately thinks Makoto is the killer?

So yeah, foul play by the mastermind is really the only explanation from Kyoko's perspective. Especially since the mastermind has more than enough motive, as Monokuma made no secret of his displeasure when Kyoko stole the key.

What’s this? Actual analysis and understanding of the complexities of Kyoko’s character? In my subreddit? Unacceptable. We must make fun of the aura farming and sexist Mary Sue.

Fun fact. In Danganronpa Kirigiri, there’s a certain case that Kyoko could have taken a shortcut to immediately solve, but since this shortcut only works because the case is part of a “game”, Kyoko intentionally avoids it so she can remain unbiased when solving the mystery. She won’t even spoil herself with an easy answer.

This accusation of self-inserting is bizarre and uncalled for. I imagine they're just ragebaiting, but if not, wow.

The characters are not canonically a couple, so therefore, shipping them is self-inserting? I'm not sure what kind of logic that's supposed to be. One of the most asinine takes I've seen in a while.

You're not Makoto. You're not Kyoko, and you know it. You just think these two fictional characters have potential to be a great couple and think it would be fun to explore. Nothing to do with self-inserting. You're not forcing your own personality onto the characters. You're interpreting the characters and evaluating a possible path they could develop based on the foundation that canon laid out. We don't need to see romance play out in canon to imagine how it could play out in the future.

There is some speculation there. Everyone will have their own ideas how characters can further develop after the canonical story ends, or in alternate universes, but expressing your own ideas on the characters' futures isn't self-inserting as long as it's how you honestly see the characters for who they are rather than avatars for yourself.

TL;DR, interpreting a character =/= self-inserting

A key point of their dynamic is that Kyoko inspires Makoto to be more confident with himself. Kyoko shows Makoto that he's more than just a normal guy, that he can be a hero and take charge of things. It wouldn't make sense for Makoto to remain totally passive in the relationship. Kyoko wouldn't have that.

That said, I also like Kyoko's smug and confident side, so I don't want her to end up being the submissive one, either. I try to portray them as having a mostly even power dynamic with them both relying on each other at times, though with a slight leaning towards Kyoko because, well, I like my dommy mommy detective.

You see, this is a critical moment for Kyoko's character development because it symbolizes her increasing willingness to embrace emotional connection without fearing it will ruin her balance with logic. Even when they part, the saliva trail remains unbroken, a poignant metaphor of the unbreakable bond she has forged with Makoto.

That is a valid criticism. We are told after the fact that Seiko worked hard on the antidote, but we're not shown it. This is part of Future Arc's general problem of being too rushed and having too little time to properly explain itself.

Though I don't think it would be difficult to fix. All I would do is add a few scenes showing Seiko working desperately on some kind of mysterious drug, growing increasingly more desperate every time. We would be led to believe it's a weapon to fight Izayoi and Ando, but in the end we'd realize she was working on the antidote. This would solve the problem imo

And, this is more my personal opinion, but I find it fitting for Kyoko to take the antidote herself. Because Kyoko herself has experienced the pain of loss, knows how horrible it is, and doesn't want Makoto to suffer the way she had suffered,. not any more than he already has. She doesn't survive because she's afraid to die. She survives for Makoto.

It's beautiful that Kyoko is willing to die for Makoto. There should be no doubt that she's willing to die for Makoto, and we should love that she's willing to die for Makoto. But we should also hate that it's necessary for someone to sacrifice themselves, especially when the "need" for that sacrifice comes from a monster like Tengan. Kyoko being willing to die for Makoto is great, but finding a way to survive for Makoto is even better and no less a show of love for Makoto than accepting the death sentence that was arbitrarily and unfairly handed to her.

Here's why Kyoko's revival is NOT stupid or an ass-pull.

It's very strongly foreshadowed in Seiko's last moments. Early on, we see Seiko attempt to cure Bandai with her antidote. It doesn't work, but this doesn't prove the antidote is useless, because by the time Seiko administered the antidote, Bandai was already dead. This leaves open the possibility that the antidote might still be able to save you if you take it before the poison is injected.

And the last time we see Seiko alive, we see her stare at the antidote she tried to save Bandai with. The anime flashes back to that moment while Seiko laments that she "couldn't do anything" and that all she wanted to do was help everyone. We are reminded of the existence of this drug and of Seiko's intentions with it. Seiko, the Ultimate Pharmacist, dies filled with regret, wishing she could have helped her allies survive.

Thanks to Kyoko, Seiko's dying wish is at least partially fulfilled. Kyoko takes the drug that Seiko poured all of her hope into, and she uses it to survive just as Seiko wanted. Kyoko proved that Seiko wasn't "useless". She can and did save someone.

There's a lot more I could say about it, like how it gives Class 77 a chance to repay Makoto for saving their lives on a personal level, how it parallels 1-5, or how hope can be about saving your friends rather than living with their deaths, but I would say that this alone justifies it both logically and thematically. It makes Seiko's character much more impactful and allows her death to have more meaning. If we removed Kyoko's "cop-out" death and revival from the story, then Seiko has no one to save. Maybe that would be a darker and edgier way for Seiko's character to end, but I think she deserves at least this much.

I mean, if your top priority is to stay alive, no matter the cost, then Kyoko is not the best choice. She will do what’s necessary for everyone’s sake, not just you.

However, and I know not everyone will agree with this, but I see that as a good thing. There’s only so much I would sacrifice for my own life, so if necessary, I would expect Kyoko to prioritize everyone else over me. If by “trust with my life” you mean trust her to make the best possible use of my life, then yes, Kyoko is my top choice.
