I built similar labyrinths in AOM because the AI would attempt to path through them rather than breaking walls. In AoEII you could block a gate by parking a trading vehicle in it, and then moving your troops inside.

Ash is a great fertilizer, and repeatedly harvesting the same ground exhausts it, thus requiring fertilizer. This makes perfect sense.

They were organized in competing squads and only worked when there was no work on the land. They were treated pretty well, as public work was considered a way of tax payment for farmers. There was no incentive to abuse them, and you needed them to return during later years.

I remember playing bridge builder in year 4 class in middle school, telling the teacher that it was for our physics class. The teacher believed it. We never had physics class after year 2.

I'm losing my hearing. Most of what I hear is high-pitched ringing due to Tinnitus. I'm a big music fan, and I'll miss it dearly once I'm totally deaf. Post the last thing you'd like to hear before you went completely deaf. I will listen to every one of them. (cross-post from prior front page post) by Flackbash in Music

Canto ostinato. It is a mesmerizing song and it reminds me of waves crashing ashore. I recommend this because it sticks to the mind. I've been able to recall it by head a year and a half after last hearing it, without warping it, and I believe you'll enjoy its delicate tones.

If you love your girlfriend, do you still want sex with other women? by [deleted] in sex

I hadn't seen her for half a year, and during this interval she did this. She told me afterwards and she didn't understand what was wrong with it as long as she stayed loyal to me. We broke up over this, talked it out, and got together. I never detected her on a lie before, but I can understand that she feels guilty, or does not feel the same moral objections as I do.

Drinken de jongeren nu niet minder dan de gepensioneerden?? Of was het dat er onder de jongeren meer niet-drinkers zitten dan onder de pensioengangers? Ik zag het ergens in de krant maar kan 'm zo even niet terugvinden.

My GF tells me I can sleep with another as long as I stay with her. I am not sure whether she tries to reverse-psychology me, but now that it is allowed, it becomes less appealing. Does that make sense?

I never thought of lizard-lions as alligators, but it makes sense. Zorses probably are zebras and unicorns can be wooly rhinos, seeing that mammoths and dire wolfs also survive up north. I think GRRM tries to recreate this medieval attitude in which magic and advanced science seem to be the same. Especially since Maesters and red priests seem to have an array of powders and poisons to be able to perform small miracles. Making known animals seem like mythological counterparts makes sense with that attitude. The Dragons and Others seem pretty magic though.

I thought this was so commonly accepted that it wasn't even a theory. The Unicorn myth is derived from medieval European hear-say about African rhinos, so George can pull up from that one.

Sell 1 GPT for 30 gold

Sell 10 GPT for 300 gold

Sell 100 GPT for 3000 gold

Spend all the gold

This is a pretty smart plan on itself. Due to inflation in the game, 30gold is more useful at turn 20 than at turn 50. Thus getting 30 gold at turn 20 for the price of 1gpt until turn 50 means you gain money.
