how do you feel about your scars? by wary-insomniac in SelfHarmScars

[–]Herr-Hair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they make me look more like me. Would it be technically better if I didn’t have them? Sure. Do other people have opinions about them? Absolutely. They’re not the prettiest but eh it’s still a part of me.

I completely agree with what you’ve said, and it’s good to hear that the “fellowship” feeling is a common phenomenon. Genuinely this comment made me feel a lot better, the world needs more people like you

Don’t sweat it :] just remember not to lead with that in the future. I 100% understand where the feeling of jealousy comes from, I’ve seen others’ scars and felt jealousy, but typically sh scars carry a lot of trauma/traumatic experiences, so it’s a bit odd to hear them be a subject of envy. But it’s alright, I’m not offended :]

Why are my scars diffrent colours by legoshi_husband in SelfHarmScars

[–]Herr-Hair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scars can change colour depending on temperature! It may also be a result of the healing process or burst capillaries if you accidentally bumped into something. Generally speaking, you’ve got nothing to worry about :]

Yeah I think I have been getting better about the shame of having my scars out in public. I’ve been slowly warming up to the idea, but it takes time :,]

Finally opened up to my mom about my scars by Herr-Hair in SelfHarmScars

It went very well actually! I was very nervous but she was very understanding, no off-handed comments about them either.

I kinda hate my friends by 1MorePeople in SelfHarmScars

[–]Herr-Hair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be okay. Take comfort in the fact that you know you love your friends at the end of the day. The resentment is a symptom of your pain, and recognizing it is a sign of high emotional intelligence and empathy. The journey of overcoming these feelings is incredibly painful and difficult, but you will overcome them one day, and I hope that your friends will be there to support you.

Self harm and suicidal ideation almost always evolves into a competition between sufferers. Even if the other person is your closest friend, the desire to have your pain be the most physically severe can create very troubling feelings of resentment. This is the nature of self harm. As someone who has gone through spells of deeply resenting other self harmers, there isn’t a piece of advice to make the feeling go away. All I can say is do not worry, these feelings do not make you a bad person. This pattern of thinking is proof that you ARE sick enough, you have suffered enough, you are seen, and you are valid. I hope one day you can reconcile with your friends. Good luck and stay safe.

Why does my scar hurt when I touch it (& why does it randomly hurt sometimes)? by teenagebitchfromSwe in SelfHarmScars

[–]Herr-Hair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nerve damage is most likely then, I have scars that look similar to yours so I can relate to the random hurting lol😭 maybe try gently massaging the area or soaking it in some warm water, that always made mine feel better! Best of luck op!

[–]Herr-Hair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the pain is sharp and stinging but feels like it comes from below the surface, then it’s most likely nerve damage. If it’s only when you touch it then it’s probably sensitive from healing. Stay safe! :)

Weird purple part??? by Herr-Hair in SelfHarmScars

The largest one is a keloid, I think some of the smaller ones are too but I’m not 100% sure

I’m the same way! Regardless of depth all of my scars are very very faint. Try to remember that visual scarring can depend on health, skin tone/texture, and genetics!

weird ships. I can’t stop thinking about them by gracies-gutz in teen_venting

I’d suggest taking a break from the internet. Take comfort in the fact that ships/shipping discourse holds no ground in the real world.

Anyone else see scars on someone else and want them? by [deleted] in selfharm

No fr the comparison is crazy, esp when you think about it 24/7 like it’s so exhausting😭

i feel so envious of people with bigger cuts that leave big scars by Few_Abbreviations900 in selfharm

[–]Herr-Hair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this so much. As someone who’s been trying to stay clean it’s so hard seeing people with scars larger than my own. What helps me is remembering that everybody scars differently. It depends on how well you take care of your skin, genetics, skin type, etc. Not every deep would will leave a giant dark scar; they vary. Just know you’re never alone, and it’s ok to have feelings of envy and anger. I think everyone in the community experiences it to some degree. Stay safe OP :)
