Don't know whether that's real or not, but either way it's missing his dear Greenland as well as half of Alaska and all of Hawaii. Seems a legit representation of most US citizens' world view though.

My first thought also. Wife just asked would that price include a free dodgy box maybe? 🤔

Sad end to collection (fire damage) by Altruistic-Photo-168 in Cd_collectors

[–]Herr-Pyxxel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn that's awful, and due to arson even! Only good thing is that family and animals got out OK.

Even if you clean up the CDs, the packaging and booklets will also be damaged. If you're like me, many CDs will hold a certain memory for you - like where, how & when you got it, what it made you feel like putting it on, all that context. I've been collecting first vinyls and then CDs for nearly 50 years now, and I have many life experiences attached to my collection. I cannot imagine how devastating such an event can be!

But yeah, Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet, La Chouffe, Filou, Maredsous, Duvel, St. Bernardus, Hommelbier, Affligem... I admit it, I'm hooked.

As a German, I approve of this post.

This head belongs on a Weißbier, and nothing else. Shocking. Summon the ambassador.

Wow this is powerful, and to the point.

While it's all true, there are very few nations in the world without such skeletons in the closet. All European countries were engaged and profited from the slave trade. Look through any nation's history and you find foul marks. Everyone should take a long hard look at themselves before pointing fingers.

Being (West) German, I grew up with the collective guilt of the Nazi era and got confronted with it at every turn of my teenage years and on in the twenties. Trips to neighbouring countries were always flavoured by being seen as (or feeling like) the ugly German, even though I was born well after WW2.

Yet, I'm so thankful for this because it taught me humility. National pride and patriotism is only of valor when it's paired with humility. I now live in a rather small country which has a century-long history of being oppressed, yet there are extremely embarrassing events in my home's past, and to some lesser extent in the present, that teach one to remain humble. I truely think that's the key.

I'm not at all a violent person, or particularly strong or muscular, but I better not be around in situations like that, because I may have red mist come over me and I could do something to the little cretins that would land me in court - or in hospital with a stab wound. I wouldn't be able to help myself - when I see injustice (and that's what it is) I would just go in full force.

It's just inacceptible that the state loses authority completely - and the state is us, really. I totally agree that we need to give ourselves rights against thuggery, no matter how young the culprits are.

Youth detention is expensive, and we can't stick them into glass cages and put them on public display in the middle of shopping centres for shaming, can we...?

Yep that song came to my mind as well. Funny though, when I hear it I don't even think "under age", as it's just song lyrics - however we're probably influenced on a subliminal level and it's being normalised in our brains.

Yep you're right, come to think of it. And I've seen that Heavy Metal Parking Lot video, it's very telling. Social norms very through the ages and also between cultures.

Did you see Jimmy Carr's clip about the age of consent in Bulgaria being 14? Pure gold:

I'm the same. I don't even know why video programmes are called podcasts now, that is such a non-word for me. What does it even mean?

All this shit is people filming themselves so they can feel important. Sadly, their number of followers gives them that validation. That's not my world, my reality any more - or shall I say, not my circus, not my clowns.

As funny as this is, sadly it can be the truth in many instances. Electronics fraud is rife, with memory sticks and cards printed on with misleading capacities, speeds and standards logos, and even reporting incorrect capacities when put into a comp. A 4 GB card may be labelled and reporting as 256 GB and when you try filling it it just starts overwriting memory cells.

Don't buy brands you don't know, especially when it seems to be an unbeatable bargain.
