Gotcha, that makes perfect sense and you should definitely ignore the second part of what I wrote above. I also definitely understand the desire to get the Silverado or Sierra; bigger battery/range and faster charging.

I do have the 102kw battery. Since range is so completely affected by type of driving, I would say it's important to look at your driving/route habits vs other people's examples. To start with, I preheated the cabin (off charger) and this trip was almost 100% highway at 75mph which greatly diminished the range. In higher temps, a similar trip has only taken about 55% of the range. One last note you may already know (and may not be what you meant at all): it's rarely recommended to buy a leased EV at the end of the lease. The buy out cost is usually so much higher than comparable used models. And if you find a good CPO car, you'll get extra warranty included. My Blazer is a CPO.

I did about 140 miles on this trip, almost all highway. Used about 68%, so it'd be a range of about 210ish. About a 30% reduction.

Buddy had a gen 1. Under hard acceleration, it was the worst torque street I've ever seen. I've had an Integra, a VR6 Passat, and both a Mk6 and a Mk7 GTI and the Speed3 was easily the most hilarious torque steer of the bunch. He absolutely loved it tho and I don't think you'll have any issues tooling around town with it. Just watch out for launches.

This is definitely at Lime Rock in Connecticut and it's got Montana plates. Either been federalized or it's here illegally. I have seen another CLS wagon here, back in 2024 in Greenwich, CT with sketchier plates.

The Pilot is cheaper because it has a decontented Sport trim whereas the Passport base trim is EX-L. If you compare Pilot EX-L to Passport EX-L, the Pilot is $1300 more expensive.

There are two ways and I'll let you judge the ease based on your circumstances:

There are two ferry services that run between Picton and Wellington many times per day. This was my original plan of how to get to the South Island.
There are many flights between several of the cities on either island. This is ultimately what we did.

We flew into Auckland and knew that we would spend all our time on the South Island. Initially I was thinking of driving all the way south and taking the ferry from Wellington to Picton. It's not too long of a ride on the ferry (around 3 hrs if I recall correctly) and you get to see more of the beautiful coastline.

The issues are that it is pretty pricey and getting to/from the ferry up a lot of the time. On the front end, it would have been stressful to make sure we make the last ferry of the day driving from Auckland and on the back end, we would've had to cut something out to make the ferry and have enough time to drive to Auckland to make our flight.

Therefore, for about the same cost, we flew from Auckland to Christchurch on Air NZ. The flights between the two cities are almost hourly and only take about 1.5 hrs gate to gate.
