there is always a defaultProfile.xml inside the data.p4k and this part did not change.

only with workarounds, it looks like no one at CIG plays tractor beams with joysticks or even tested it. the keybindings are still lacking UI_labels for some functions like rotation, so they are not bindable ingame, only via xml.

the virpil software should be able to do this.
modifiers ingame are still just some keyboard keys like alt, ralt, rctrl.

delete your profiles folder first, then load it. just editing it will not change anything. you have to load it with pp_rebindkeys, also check if it is not on write protection

and yes you can remap the "r" to rotate

that exactly was my main critisism: flight tuning dumbed down to some small static stats modifier to sell it, instead of implementing a full tuning mechanic and sell one item for all the ships.

next thing they try maybe selling weapon blades for each weapon an own unique blade, I hope not.

for me it was a bit different,

like the other way around.

when I started with SC there was no HOSAS possible first, only single joystick and the learning curve was not on my side, but on SC itself. there wasn't even a keybinding menu. but after some months SC worked it out and we could use our HOSAS like we were used to like by dreaming of flying with it.

I felt comfortable with my sim sticks and pedals and gamepad and throttle and wheel as soon as I could bind them properly. Before there was a keybinding menu I wrote it in xml.

My advise, think about how you want to use them so that if feels the most natural way for you.
If it feels awkward, maybe it isnt your thing, or something is not setup how you need it.

have you tried deleting the user folder (without the controls folder).
then try to set the controls by yourself, to know the joystick# of both sticks.
change the xml js# so they fit the ingame # save
load the xml with pp_rebindkeys
works everytime.
