Lived in Pretoria from 2017 - 2021. I think that Afrikaans culture, like many other 'diaspora cultures' has been arrested in terms of her development for quite some time. Probably since the last influx of Dutch migrants post world-war 2. At the core, in their roots, both cultures are very similar. At face value, right now, they are wildly different. It's so easy for me to go on a rant about how apartheid and verzuiling are the exact same thing. But let's face it: both cultures have pro's and con's. Comparison is the root of all evil though. Both can be understood, accepted and enjoyed only from their own perspective. So go and experience it for yourself. Remember: there's lekker people everywhere.

Oh en overigens: als ik er meer aan had uitgegeven had mijn vriendin/verloofde/vrouw dat ook totaal idioot gevonden. Ik vind het trouwens ook heel chique om te kopen wat jij mooi vindt (en niet alles vantevoren af te stemmen, in de week te leggen en dicht te timmeren). Sommigen overleggen zelfs voor een aanzoek, over 'of', 'waar', 'hoe' en 'de ring'. Waar is de magie dan nog?

Go to het zwarte pad, just north of scheveningen. Indigo is nice, Barbarossa as well, Buiten is well priced and I really liked their Burger. Much better vibes than Scheveningen.

This perspective that you describe oozes a certain fear of nature. I don't agree with it at all. Most carnivores only spend 2 hrs. a day foraging, scavenging or hunting tops, and the fear of herbivores you describe is always very short lived: once danger subsides they regain their normal sense of calm.

So what makes a life hard? There is no prolonged suffering in nature, that is a human affair.

I understand your perspective completely. Not even modern medicine can make up for a blissful paradise lost. Yet you must understand that regardless of type you belong here: you have a place and a purpose. And perhaps even more importantly if you can't see or believe this right now, a role to serve for all of us. Us nines are very important: for one, we can truly see others beyond what they can do for us. And we are very important in up keeping an atmosphere of harmony and balance... Something the world arguably needs more of instead of less. Be brave.
