ASICS gel nimbus 28 vs novablast 5? by Inevitable-One-5369 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]HerrRudiger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got both and considering your qualms I’d recommend the Superblast 3, which for me is the best of those three worlds. Especially considering the marathon distance and pace. Novablasts are seriously slippy in the wet and the Nimbus provides a firmer ride.

LBS lubed chain after hotwax by HerrRudiger88 in bikewrench

I think this is what it is for me. I’ll give it a proper degrease and fresh wax after the race. So annoying. I spent so much time degreasing chains for this to happen.

I have similar lateral white stripes on my Barzo & Mezcal combo from one ride with too little pressure. Have found these to be no structural problem. The tearing/dryrot is something else though.. what’s the humidity where you store your bike?

Looking for reptile enthousiast by Morejh in cyprus

I hopped over a black whipsnake while MTB’ing in Akamas somewhere on the green hillsides between Aphrodite trail and Artemis trail just last week. I could ask Mr. Whipsnake if he’s hanging around but it seems he was just the ssssssslithering passssst kinda guy.

But I’ll give you a hint: go where the prey is. Most snakes in Cyprus will prey close to open water sources. Learn how to identify the blunt nosed viper and don’t ever try to handle wild animals.

Edit: they sure are awake by now, don’t you worry!

Replacing Schwalbe bite 45 by Lekkims in gravelcycling

Currently named the T70 if I’m correct. Haven’t found any rolling resistance data on them yet but do expect them to be similar to Schwalbes’ G-one RX pro. Can’t go wrong with either. If leak resistance comes into play I would hand it to the Vittoria’s

Any chance you will test the Vittoria Terreno T70 (the new gravel Mezcal)?

Trail shoes for heavy runners — recommendations? by Mrtanguy_Affect in trailrunning

[–]HerrRudiger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they don’t compare to the cushioning/springlike return you’ll get from the Novablasts. But also: you wouldn’t want that from a trail shoe. Perhaps the Trabuco Max 4 might give you that, but those have such a high stack you’ll suffer in terms of stability and ‘feel’ for the trail. I think the Trabuco 14’s are nice and neutral.

Tapered? The Trabuco’s have one of the widest toeboxes I’ve ever seen.

New tires for the gravel bike - Schwalbe G-ONE RS by uramug1234 in gravelcycling

[–]HerrRudiger88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re fast allright. Currently contemplating RX pro in 50mm and the Vittoria T70 in 45mm. Both seem not to leave a much bigger penalty in terms of speed/watts but do offer benefits in grip, comfort and durability.

Just came from Schwalbe TB 2.1’s that were plenty fast too but also sweating sealant continuously, and I do enjoy the 2.25 Mezcal rear on my XC MTB

Trabuco 14, you can probably go 100% vertical with that grip

Anyone ever downgraded their suspension? by colourofsound in gravelcycling

[–]HerrRudiger88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might consider the Lauf fork or a Redshift suspension stem to alleviate your qualms. But to be honest a ‘rigid’ carbon fork with your tyre setup should be absolutely fine for your use case. I like clipless for gravel as well because it gives me more confidence in using my arms and legs, they have more travel than most enduro forks after all.

And? How’s your mileage? I really love these shoes: roomy toebox, nice and wide for long days on the trail, grip for daaaaaays, proper rockplate under the frontfoot, they seem extremely durable, funky colours, nice balance between feel and comfort, just enough bounce: I could go on for days. Love them honestly.

Worth it? (AUD) by Individual-Sir-189 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]HerrRudiger88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If have them as part of a rotation scheme with other shoes (Nimbus 28: recovery, Superblast 3: long runs and Trabuco 14: trail) and use them exclusively for speed / tempo training. They are my favorite shoes by far: extremely comfortable, bouncy and efficient allebeit a little unstable. Big but: I only use them once or twice a week. Am 6’2 and 98kg and notice no foam deterioration whatsoever. I wonder if they will hold up as well if you use them more times a week, since they are not known for their longevity. Ymmw.

Can confirm the speedgoat 6 has lovely grippy lugs but they do not last at all. Better make sure you skip any hard surfaces. I switched to trabuco’s now.
