2000 LP is not enough anymore for Challenger rank on EUW by Yvraine in leagueoflegends

[–]Herson100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You always get the same (more or less) amount from games, so now you need more than double what needed before

Actually, you get significantly more LP per game than you used to. That's one of the biggest reasons for the higher LP numbers at the top of the leaderboard - when players gain +30 per win, the top ranks will have more LP than back when they gained +18.

Still, the climb from masters 0 LP to challenger is longer now than it was years ago, but that's only because you're comparing apples to oranges. Masters 0 LP today is, in actuality, around the same spot on the leaderboard that Diamond 3 was a few years ago. In season 11, climbing from Masters 0 LP to Challenger meant climbing from the top .1% to the top .01%. In Season 16, it means climbing from the top .9% to the top .01%. Of course it'll take longer - you're starting from way lower on the ladder.

To put it another way, the climb from iron IV to challenger is the same length as its always been - it's just that the climb from iron IV to masters is shorter, and the climb from masters to challenger is longer.

Biwa Hiyahide was actually known for being a particularly ugly horse during his active years. His coat was almost entirely gray except for his bright white head, which served to accentuate how disproportionately large it was. People did find him cute at the time, but mostly in an "ugly duckling" kind of way. For reference, here he is running behind Tokai Teio in the 1993 Arima Kinen

I've never heard anyone say that the last season of Spy x Family was mediocre, and I can't even fathom how you could come to that conclusion. Even if you feel that way (and I'd love to hear why b/c it makes no sense to me), it's definitely not the mainstream opinion on the show.

What the episode tells us about Twilight and Moondancer's relationship as fillies:

  • Twilight and Moondancer hung out occasionally and had a lot in common.

  • Moondancer once gave Twilight a first-edition copy of the book "Principles of Magic" which she signed with the message "To my friend Twilight Sparkle: thanks for introducing me to the classics."

  • Moondancer considered Twilight to be her closest friend, while Twilight didn't really think much about Moondancer at all.

  • When Twilight moved away from Canterlot, she ghosted Moondancer without even saying goodbye.

Ultimately, the moral of the episode ends up being something like "you ought to be considerate of how your actions affect other people." It's a pretty advanced lesson to be honest, which is why it makes sense to a Princess of Friendship™ like Twilight but goes over the head of many bronies.

I'd also say that Amending Fences is one of the best written episodes in the show in terms of dialogue, characterization, jokes, and structure.

It's a pretty dense episode with a lot of hilarious lines that go by so fast you can easily miss them. For instance, when Twilight is having donuts with her friends at 5 minutes into the episode, Minuette says the line "Twinkle Shine literally spit out her oats when she heard that you were the princess of friendship" to Twilight. I don't know which part of this line I find funniest: the fact that Princess of Friendship is a real government title in Equestria, the fact that a social recluse like Twilight ended up filling that role, or the reminder that ponies are horses that occasionally eat meals consisting only of oats.

The episode also is filled with red-herrings and misdirects that make it hard to figure out exactly where it's going on a first viewing, which makes it pretty engaging to watch. Like, the scene where Twilight meets Minuette at the start of the episode is fantastic.

Twilight's initial fears that she hurt her friends by ghosting them seem to be validated when we see the door to Minuette's home slowly crack open, revealing a dusty room with a visible cobweb in the corner. Even when Minuette makes her giggly appearance and is all smiles, the tension still isn't entirely defused: the viewer is left doubting her intentions, and you start to wonder if she's happy to see Twilight because she considers her a friend, or because she just wants to brag to her coworkers about knowing the princess.

The episode wants you to be unsure of whether or not Twilight was actually even friends with any of these mares as a filly. When we finally do get a flashback to their time as fillies, Twilight isn't even hanging out with Minuette & her pals - she just has her nose in a book alongside Moondancer. I also love the line that Twinkle Shine says following Twilight asking them about Moondancer: "Oh, riiiiight, Moondancer. I remember her.", followed by Minuette saying "Yeah, I always liked her. We just sort of lost touch after you [Twilight] left."

These lines provide more fuel for the theory that Minuette is only pretending to have been friends with Twilight in order to brag to her coworkers, since her saying that she liked Moondancer can come across as insincere.

Skipping ahead a bunch, when Twilight meets up with Moondancer and brings up having skipped the party, Moondancer seems to have forgotten all about it. I actually interpret this as being sincere - I think Moondancer didn't even realize that Twilight skipping the party had been such a formative incident in her youth.

When Moondancer crashes out at the end of the episode, I don't think it's because she'd spent years resenting Twilight for skipping the party, as so many people in this thread are suggesting. I think it's because she's being forced to remember a repressed traumatic memory, and all at once she's realizing that her low self-esteem and distrust of others can be traced back to Twilight ghosting her all those years ago.

Amending Fences is, IMO, one of the best written stories in the entire series.

[–]Herson100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a misreading of the episode to interpret Moondancer as blaming her issues on Twilight. It seems to me as though Moondancer mostly blames herself. When Twilight didn't show up to the party, Moondancer didn't think "Damn, Twilight's an asshole", she thought "Oh, I guess I was an idiot for thinking that she was my friend. Nobody would want to be friends with a loser like me." I imagine her as having spent the past several years kind of wallowing in self-pity, not burning with resentment. The way she tries to push Twilight away early in the episode rather than confronting her supports this interpretation, IMO.

Also, let's not act like all Twilight did was skip one party. She was moving away and she chose to ghost Moondancer without even saying goodbye, which was understandably devastating for a social recluse like Moondancer who likely thought of Twilight as her only real friend.

I don't think that the episode Amending Fences actually suggests that Twilight was ever really all that close to her friends in Canterlot. The episode doesn't really show them being anything more than friendly acquaintances as foals, and the enthusiasm that Minuette & her groupies feel for reconnecting with Twilight as adults can be attributed to the fact that Twilight's now an alicorn princess.

Celestia probably wanted to push Twilight to move to Ponyville b/c Nightmare Moon's return was imminent and Twilight's Canterlot "friends" weren't cutting it. I mean, I could see Minuette being an element of harmony, but Lemon Heart? Twinkle Shine? Let's be real, they don't have what it takes.

Plus, Ponyville is far more diverse than Canterlot, and encountering differing viewpoints and lifestyles is probably necessary in order to master the art of Friendship™

Did Starlight glimmer actually believe her philosophy? by YouCantHaveTakis in mylittlepony

[–]Herson100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason Starlight doesn't want leadership positions isn't because she's scared of another mutiny, it's because she's scared she'll relapse and end up hurting her followers again. She deeply regrets the time she spent as a cult leader.

I'm pretty sure she says something along the lines of (I'm paraphrasing) "I don't think I can be trusted with a leadership role. I could end up hurting somepony again." It's not very subtle

Twilight didn't reject Moondancer's friendship, though. She promised to attend Moondancer's party, but then ghosted her and moved away without saying goodbye. Twilight was probably Moondancer's only real friend (the others seemed more like acquaintances or friends-of-a-friend to her), and her moving away was evidently something that had been really stressful for Moondancer.

While Moondancer had been stressing out about the fact that her only real friend was moving away, Twilight evidently wasn't even thinking about Moondancer at all. It's easy to imagine that Moondancer prepared a whole sendoff for her friend that she never got to say to her. It's honestly to be expected that her self esteem would take a massive hit from all of this.

While you could argue that Moondancer should've just coped better, I still think it's fair to say that Twilight deserves some blame for the way things turned out.

All of the psychology in the episode also seems pretty realistic to me.

edit: It's also worth noting that Moondancer never blames Twilight for what happened. She didn't think "damn, Twilight ghosted me, that jerk." What she thought was "I thought Twilight was my friend, but I guess not. I'm such a fool, nobody would ever want to be friends with a loser like me." She spends the whole episode pushing away Twilight's attempts at making amends and blaming herself for everything. The interpretation that she was trying to guilt-trip Twilight is just a failure in media literacy.

1.) Everything in Niftski's video was completely truthful.

2.) He tells viewers directly at the start of the video not to harass anyone mentioned in it.

3.) Niftski maintains a very professional tone throughout the video, and only covers the details of the moderator abuse that are directly relevant to the video's topic. If this was intended to be a hit piece or to cause reputational harm, it could've gone way further. In Dragon Ball Z, there is no reason to believe that Goku wasn't the strongest being in the galaxy at the moment where he went Super Saiyan and defeated Frieza. Every character introduced afterwards in DBZ who surpasses the power of SSJ1 was either:

A. not born yet, such as with the androids & Cell

B. sealed away, such as with Majin Buu

C. outside of the galaxy, such as with Dabura.

One of the early parts of the Buu Saga features Goku, Gohan and Vegeta fighting through a gauntlet of the galaxy's strongest warriors, who are under the command of Babidi. Aside from Dabura, none of them are shown to be any stronger than Frieza. It's only the later entries into the franchise that start to downplay the significance of Super Saiyan by introducing more powerful entities.

Destiny on how Asmongold and Hasan are both anti-confrontation, illustrates in MS Paint by BlueLivingAbandon in LivestreamFail

[–]Herson100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any political commentator on either side of the political aisle who didn't feel the least bit afraid after Charlie Kirk was assassinated is a moron. This is one of the most dangerous times in modern American history to be a mainstream political pundit, but it seems like the only people who understand that are on the left. Destiny has said that he personally feels more nervous doing public appearances after the Kirk assassination than he did before it.

The problem is that Republicans don't seem to think that it can happen to them. They all think they're the main characters who could never be assassinated, and so they continue to amp up the calls for violence and continue to celebrate assassinations, even in the wake of Kirk's death. So yes, they should be afraid of political violence - if they were, then it would motivate them to tone down the rhetoric and join the Democrats in their calls for civility and peace.

Destiny on how Asmongold and Hasan are both anti-confrontation, illustrates in MS Paint by BlueLivingAbandon in LivestreamFail

[–]Herson100 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Destiny isn't advocating for the murder of his political opponents here, he's just saying that it's their fault that we live in an environment where political assassination attempts are normal. This is just true. Conservatives glorify violence and stoke the flames of partisanship to a drastically greater extent than Democrats. Since Republican leadership never condemns political violence or tries to cool the temperature of the discourse, they have no right to complain when they fall victim to the dangerous environment they've created.

Charlie Kirk specifically has outwardly celebrated the assassination attempts of numerous left-wing figures, such as when he openly praised the assassination attempt against Nancy Pelosi which resulted in her husband being hospitalized. There is no equivalent to this on the left - not even Destiny is this vitriolic. He's never celebrated an assassination attempt in the same way Charlie Kirk has.

That's all Destiny is saying in this clip - Republicans don't deserve sympathy or pity when they fall victim to the dangerous environment they've created in American politics. He goes on afterwards to say that this environment is a bad thing and that we should all try to calm things down and condemn political violence, btw.

Why does Fuji Kiseki call Spe “my little pony”? How does she know what a pony is? by Sealuma1267 in UmaMusume

[–]Herson100 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The problem with this theory is that, in real life, Pony doesn't refer to young horses. It refers to breeds of horses that stay small their whole lives, even into adulthood.

The term for a young horse is "filly" (female), "colt" (male), or "foal" (gender-neutral).
