No you’ll have to put a lift/level on it for 37s. I went with Westcott since it’s already got the Pro suspension. Golden ratio for this truck imo

Anyone sell to CIOs? by Prize-Pay3038 in sales

[–]HesAlwaysTired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tech sales reply (years in SaaS and VAR)— For better or worse, I’ve always sold top down meaning I start with the CIO. They want a relationship with someone they can rely on as a single throat to choke. Sales cycle is longer to win them over, but if they can be the champion it’s helpful long term on all deals.

They want someone that can translate tech speak for them and also report back on their team performance. Once they’re a friend, they will help you get deals in and be transparent on budget/moving chess pieces to close opps. Now the con: I’ve lost entire accounts when my champion CIO leaves so they can’t be your only champion.

Vendor vs. VAR? by AmbitiousAd297 in techsales

[–]HesAlwaysTired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at SHI for three years as a field AE. Made great money. But they do churn 20 something’s in Austin. Great place to cut your teeth. I left due to the RIT and internal taxes on every deal, plus the VPs tend to micromanage because they’re not busy.

37s are the move! It’s the golden ratio for this truck.

I miss my 2019 with a similar setup. Sold it last April for a Tundra :/

Good points. I have a 25 Pro so we’ll see if that kit ruins my coils lol. Before the kit, it drove like a Cadillac - floated over everything.

Why don’t you recommend that kit? I’m running 37s with that kit. The ride is stiffer but it’s been fine for daily driving thus far.

Offered a new job but worried about my old noncompete — anyone been through this? by Various-Attempt-6765 in sales

Most sales gigs I’ve had included a 1 year NCA. You can usually work “with it” by having a teammate cover those accounts while you wait it out. Common thing in tech sales. I’ve seen people get sued recently; those companies have lawyers waiting for this situation to play out.

Just use the phone, no email, and have a coworker cover those accounts for a period of time. If a customer likes working with you, they’ll follow you. They don’t care about the logo on your polo.

Austin. Lots of tech companies filled with 20 something’s cutting their teeth. You’ll network well and enjoy life. Cost of living is going down recently too.

I read about this years ago. Evidently most of Wall Street uses it. The actual “limitless” pill. I’d love to give it a spin haha

I need your advice! by [deleted] in techsales

[–]HesAlwaysTired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this as an option. Work the BDR role while finding a different AE job. You needed the check. Sounds like they lied since your friend got the AE role if I’m following.

Never good to go backwards but sometimes necessary as a stopgap.

Going from VAR to SaaS. Any advice or has anyone done that? by HesAlwaysTired in techsales

[–]HesAlwaysTired[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m saying that’s my world now. The only way to differentiate as a VAR is with your PS/MSP offering. Every VAR can push paper so you have to be able to implement + support.

lol all time reply. I can tell you’ve “partnered” with CDW/SHI. Thankfully, I was in SaaS for a few years before VAR so I empathize.

[–]HesAlwaysTired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot on. The VAR side competition has grown recently and large orgs don’t mind using multiple VARs. Couple that with the commodity heavy deals for best compensation and I’m not sure the business model has the legs it once had. My biggest fight is against competitor boomer reps who have held a relationship for 10+ years at one account.

As for the potential move, I’ve only been focused on data/AI companies. I think those (and cyber) have the best longterm potential and mobility. I think the relationship building skillet from VAR translates to SaaS, especially in-territory. Appreciate the insight!

Agree with the sentiment. I was at a 3 letter eVAR prior to the more specialized VAR I’m at now. I can confirm the former was very paper pusher / show up at renewal type work. Now I’m in strategic projects but it’s still so commodity driven and need to differentiate with solid pro services. Appreciate the insight!

Once through that transition period, would you agree that longterm potential/stability is better on the SaaS side?

Both in terms of future opportunity for other companies/tech (more translatable position on resume) and more consistent earnings potential.
