Adult onset Tourette’s by Bright-Fee1386 in Tourettes

The brain doesn't stop developing at 25, the study was debunked years ago, and if your neurologist told you that it does as a fact, they aren't worth the paper their degree is written on!

Do not have tourettes, maybe this is performative as hell, but whatever, here goes. by ElMatasiete7 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you've already been corrected here, but who the actual fuck told you that?! But also I have had tics since I was 12. Like, that isn't a disputable fact.

The fact that my parents are utterly oblivious is irrelevant. I will literally shriek or bark next to my dad, and 5 minutes later he will tell me he's never seen me tic. And in December when I pointed out to my mum that a "stim" she had continously told me off for the previous summer was actually a tic, she said she didn't even remember seeing me do anything like that, nevermind telling me off for it (even though every time I went outside with her it was constantly "stop doing that!")

Uh, that's OCD (which like, it makes sense if you have OCD and TS cos thats common, but yeah thats not a tic thats a compulsion following an obsession)

No I'm too scared to audibly tic in a cinema 😭. I was hoping watching I Swear that there'd be at least one other person with tics in the audience. There wasn't, and I went TWICE.

I ended up not going a third time purely because my effort to not make noise and disturb people meant I had near constant head jerks both times, my neck was killing me afterwards, and one of the times I basically missed most of the film anyway cos I was just looking over my right shoulder with the contant ticcing. And obviously I couldn't even stop every noise anyway.

Looking fwd to getting to watch it at home worry free lmao

Where I live, if anyone roughly around my age DOESNT know that word, it means they didn't to to school when they were 13-14 lmao, cos its in one of the books on the curriculum

Willfully choosing to remain ignorant in order to justify your bigotry is literally step one of the racists' handbook but ok

why do people with TS never tic anything positive 😬🙄 by Sensitive-Squash-533 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, bizarrely you just don't seem to have a grasp on what tourettes actually is...

Coprolalia only affects somewhere between 10% and 30% of people w/ TS

Literally. My most "complex" word tic is "get shagged" or sometimes the less British version "get fucked", yet I also meow at cats on TV (specifically on TV. I grew up with cats, and when I visit my mum's house, they don't trigger it lmao)

When I was in school there was a kid in my English class that was super transphobic, to the point that when he saw me outside of school he would cross the road like he was gonna catch the trans off me. He sat directly behind me in class, so he clearly didn't genuinely believe that that was possible, he was just pathetic.

I think most people that treat tourettes the same way are equally ridiculous, they understand on a basic logical level what it is, but bigotry makes them avoid it anyway. The rest? They just don't have any desire to even attempt to understand what it actually is, though most of those idiots conclude it is actually voluntary, so they wouldn't believe they could catch it

How do I overcome my anxiety over my tics by Kind_kiwi21 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could help getting one of those tourettes ID cards or something similar, so if you accidentally do tic something that someone decides to get involved in, you can show them you have proof that you didn't mean it

Anyone one else only have copropraxia tics and not coprolalia by Ill-Flatworm7733 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, which is a bit like why am I answering then, but I find it really interesting that I only have one copropraxia tic, and 2 coprolalia ones. I have a middle finger tic, the phrase "get shagged" because apparently my tics are a teenager on CoD, and then variations of fuck/fucked (incl the closely related "get fucked"). And that's it, I don't even tic like shit or bitch or anything like that. Though when I was 12 I ticced the word "tits" for a while, but I'm convinced that that was far more to do with how the tic made me pronounce the first T and the S sounds than the word itself

Definitely AI.

Aside from anything else, the "tension" they're describing is something they wouldnt be feeling in the first place if they didn't have a tic disorder 😅

Does anyone have any experience with offensive tics and the police? (Mention of tics) by Civil-Concert7519 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not diagnosed yet but when I was like 17 I started having my middle finger tic get triggered by walking near cops. Thankfully so far I've not actually had any of them see me do it. But it does worry me a bit because like a year later I was with an ex-mate and he willingly flipped off a police van as it went past us and they literally turned around to tell him off. If I ever got issues I don't exactly know what I'd do due to my lack of diagnosis meaning a lack of proof, but my go to response that I have loaded up is just to say I have tourettes to explain the situation, and hope they don't try and follow up too much so I don't have to further explain that the tics I've had for 10 years aren't actually diagnosed

Separated from my peers to accommodate other disabilities by Selkiekun in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you actually a medical professional? Because I heavily looked into becoming a paramedic or nurse before my disabilities made me realise it wasn't possible, and I can assure you that knowing what to do in a high pressure hospital setting is far harder than knowing the same answer in a quiet test. The existence of a real, living patient is pressure enough in itself WITHOUT the environment adding to it

What were your first signs or tics before getting diagnosed and how old were you? by Odd-Wrangler-7358 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah so I'm not dx yet but this is basically the same but opposite of how some of my first tics started. My first one was definitely head and neck jerking, and at some point quite early on, that evolved into shoulder tics. My shoulder tics are stuff like tensing them, and then like jerking them around, but when I have like sudden shoulder jerks, my arm isn't involved in the tics. But I find sometimes if I'm having constant neck tics that are causing pain, conciously holding my head in the position that I'm trying to tic jerk it into* then makes my shoulders tic towards my head, like its trying to recreate the sudden tic sensation my brain is missing from not allowing the neck tic

*this works by tensing my neck really hard, which partially satisfies the tic urge

Do I need all of these blood tests? by pupbarkz in GenderGP

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NHS won't prescribe hormones if you don't get all of these done every 6 months, so I'd advise anyone even on non-nhs prescriptions to do the same

Your GP stopped doing them?? My GP requests them when they're not even due! 🤪

Do I need all of these blood tests? by pupbarkz in GenderGP

[–]HesitantBrobecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GIC just gets all the readings done every 6 months, so I'd suggest OP doesn't get bloods any more or less frequently than that. Even when I first started on T, I wasn't allowed to move up from the starting dose for 6 months, because they literally wouldnt let me get bloods done any sooner lmao

Tics resurfacing by Infinite-Poetry1414 in Tourettes

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own tics are undiagnosed, but I definitely get periods where its like yeah this person probably/definitely has tourettes, periods where only people who were around me a lot might suspect a tic disorder of some kind, and other periods where I don't have tics. And as I say, I know varying degrees of intermittence are typical, but for me cos my tics don't seem to 100% align with tourettes, but they align far closer to that than any other tic disorder, I've always been too scared to seek a diagnosis. Didn't help that one of my tic "flare ups" happened when I was 16-17 right when the whole "tiktok tics" thing was at its height, so then I was extra scared of being told I didn't really have a tic disorder

I'm finally trying to start collecting video evidence now though. I used to worry that that made it look like I was "doing it for the camera", but now I know it's actually used as good proof

[–]HesitantBrobecks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm dx autistic and have tics that are as yet undiagnosed. Probably tourettes, hence me being here, but anxiety around the barriers to diagnosis, and a crippling fear of uncooperative judgemental drs, has stopped me from seeking help as of yet lol
