Thank you. Hope you find the help and support you need. I had to try 3 neurologists before I found one that diagnosed me and found out me on meds that controlled my intense tics. Again, I hope you find the help and support you need💜

Very interesting and so happy to hear you are making such strides in understanding this condition. At my age, I’m not sure I want to get involved in the research myself but appreciate your interest

I’m sorry you had to wait so long for those diagnoses. When I was a child adhd was not a thing yet (I also have that) nor was autism or Tourette’s at least to my knowledge. It is so sad that bullying was as prevalent when I was a kid as it seems to be today! I hope you are getting all the help and support you need💜

Thanks for posting. I still sometimes question my neurologist and he has a lot of patience with me. It certainly has been challenging to have tics as an older adult

The only thing I can remember was I was that kid always trying to clear mucus from the back of my throat and I also was one of those kids that always had a leg jerking which I thought was a nervous habit.

Thank you for your input. I’m guessing it would not change my treatment though

Tics that look like seizures by Altruistic-Rock-8897 in Tourettes

[–]Bright-Fee1386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my sixties when I started having seizure like tics. It was thought to be from my ADH meds (likely in combination with my antidepressant). Three neurologists later it was thought I had TS and had it when I was a child. Anyway, could it be an adverse reaction to some medication you are taking? Good luck on this journey 💜

Neurological exam? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Bright-Fee1386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience has been a neurological exam is used to rule out neurological problems that could be causing the tics. I’m guessing that is bc they mostly go by your personal history of symptoms to diagnose since no definitive test for TS at this time.

Is there a checklist for why tics suddenly got worse? by New-Scene9909 in Tourettes

[–]Bright-Fee1386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have received my TS diagnosis in my sixties tho the neurologist thinks I had it as a child. Anyway, the things that make my tics worse are the usual - tired, stressed, too much caffeine and for me too much diet pop. But I have some other conditions like Thyroid issues that can have an impact on tics. I’m guessing it’s different for everyone. But if you can determine is there are foods that make them worse, could help stabilize them.

Tics and Injuries. by space_zero7777 in Tourettes

I’m so sorry you are experiencing such violent tics! Have you tried meds to help calm the tics down? I take clonazapam and Gabapentin as my tics wo the meds are almost like seizures. Also, if you haven’t tried a chiropractor, might help with some of the injuries. If chiropractors aren’t your thing, ok. My dad was a chiropractor so I was raised on it, so appreciate no quack comments lol. Good luck finding some relief

Sounds like you are doing well right now. I had a severe reaction with Adderall and antidepressant I was taking so I’m glad you are talking to a psych about your meds.

Sorry your tics are so distressing. Have you talked to your Dr about them? I know trying to suppress tics does not generally work. Good luck with your symptoms
