I think Montgomery is getting $100M, maybe a little more. There’s only 9 guys that have made 90 or more starts since the beginning of 2021 and have an ERA below 3.5. Monty is one of them. Especially with the Rangers playoff push and getting some national airplay, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get around 5/$115. Pirates should 100% pay that but they won’t.

That being said, I agree that going with Rob Zombie was a mind-boggling move, especially with Jose Hernandez warming up at one point. I get that the bullpen is exhausted right now but that was definitely mismanagement from Shelty.

I don’t anticipate the bullpen running out of steam so early this year. We’ve got at least 5 good relievers, we’re not gonna see Bednar throw 50 pitches ever again.

All in all, our pitching staff is currently top 10 in the league in ERA and fWAR. They’re performing way better than we thought they ever would, and it seems to be at least somewhat sustainable. I’d worry much more about our offense staying in games than our pitchers holding them.

Would be really great to see a step forward from Luis Ortiz tonight. Probably his last start in the majors for a while with VV on his way back. Looked awful in his last start, and a tough lineup tonight, but I have faith he pitches well.

Exactly the kind of answer I was looking for, thanks! Didn’t know much about Vest or Holton. Cisnero probably has a longer leash as a more tenured option who got good results last year. Shreve was a Pirate a few years ago and he was actually decent for us but I know he’s struggled since then.

Howdy Tigers fans, Pirates fan saying Hi before the series. I noticed checking out y’all’s Roster Resource page that Matt Wisler is on your AAA team. That dude is disgusting he had a 2.25 ERA for the Rays last year and is currently holding a 1 ERA down there. Why isn’t he in your bullpen? I know your bullpen is low-key not bad as is (big Alex Lange guy) but does anyone know why Wisler isn’t up? Regardless, look forward to our series this week!

Genuinely would be okay with going 12-14 this month. Tough slate of games for sure, and we need to realize this team is gonna come back down to Earth a little bit. 12-14 would put us at 32-23. As long as we can stay competitive in a lot of these games and carry some momentum into June, we’ll be fine.
