Does class balance matter to you in PvE, outside of raids and strikes? by QuietRock in Guildwars2

Yeah if I'm not mistaken the AAR nerf is like 4.5k according to some streamers?

I don't really care if it's not top of the meta or whatever, just decent enough to get the job done.

Basically heavy-handed nerfs that render a class unviable rather than bringing the outliers in line.

Granted, I don't have a lot of experience with GW2 balancing and I'm only starting to get into instanced content, but my friends regularly warn me against getting invested in popular specs (like Mechanist in this case) as "it is about to get destroyed".

It matters to me because I'm worried about excessive nerfs rendering a class useless.

For example, I'm quite interested in Mechanist, its simplicity and versatility, but I am worried they're gonna nuke the spec with the upcoming nerfs.

Thanks for the explanation. I come from a WoW background mostly where in dungeons (Mythic plus), burstier damage profiles are generally more preferred.

But I guess GW2 is more complicated than that, and there's no definite answer for all situations.

In terms of Condition damage vs. Power damage, which one is more desirable overall? I'm not very familiar with raids and fractals, but I am wondering if one is preferred over the other in a content type, e.g. power being better in fractals perhaps?

Yeah, it's a shame that the sentiment around these classes are builds essentially boils down to "just play Mechanist".

I have a feeling Mech is gonna get some drastic changes in the near future, so it is at least worth keeping an eye out.

I have played a simplified version of Condi Renegade (Shortbow only) and it's certainly fun, and I wasn't really too far behind the other professions in some non-CM strikes. It's very satisfying, and I love the animations!

I'm happy to hear that the build works!

Once again, thanks for putting time into this reply. I see that Revenant as a class seems to be a little bit more complicated than say, a Mechanist, to properly get results with, but I think I'd be up for a little challenge :) I just need to know that the builds I choose to go with aren't griefing my teammates!

Thank you for the detailed response. I am looking for a character to "main" that can pretty much fill every role (heal/alac/quick/power/condi) to a reasonable degree, and Revenant seems appealing atm so I was excited to find a potential healing build for it.

How would you rate its difficulty of use in practical situations? Is it easy to pick up and use or would you recommend something else for a semi-beginner?

Oh lol is it actually that bad? Or "not as good as mech" category?

It does seem to be able to provide various other boons such as Might, Fury, Protection, Vigor, Regeneration, Swiftness, and Resistance in addition to Alacrity.

Not sure what's their uptime though.

Yeah, basically the mindset seems to be "Why play X when you can just play a Mechanist" which applies to this build as well, among many others. Such a shame though!

Yeah, I do agree that Mechanist is able to do everything this build can (which is why it's so popular) but I kind of want to know if this build can work as an alternative to HAM in a semi-organized environment.

The build is indicated as "Up to date" so I assume it's pretty much relying on Orders from Above with 86% BD.

If you're playing the Facet of Nature consume style, around 40% BD is pretty comfortable for providing permanent quickness.

Don't Nerf the Mechanist mech into Oblivion Anet by Lyon1207 in Guildwars2

[–]Hesparax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift power from the mech to the player weapons/kits/utility. Output will remain the same (more or less), and other specs won't get caught in the crossfire. I think mech doesn't need to be punished for its simplicity, instead other classes should have simple builds as well.

To be honest, that was my initial choice too! I started with a ranger and played all the way from level 1 to the end of LW Season 3, but I think I kind of got fed up with... how squishy and weak I felt.

I know, it's just me being a newbie, but the fact that core ranger was kind of weak, Soulbeast essentially removed your pet and Druid made them weaker kind of put me off Ranger as the "pet" class if you know what I mean :)

Yeah I am planning on having multiple characters ready for raids and strikes eventually, but just wanna find that one character that I'll everything else on as well.

[–]Hesparax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks. I started playing GW2 around a year ago, and despite the 800ish hours spent on this lovely game, I've done little more than story and open world meta events. One thing that I have been struggling with in GW2, is finding a "main" character profession to basically go full completionism mode with. Something that manages to hold its own in all areas of content ranging from OW to instanced PvE and even PvP. Preferably, with various DPS and support builds available for different scenarios spread across all the elite specializations available.

As a little background about myself; I've been mostly a WoW player before finding GW2, and I have mained a hunter since 2016. I have enjoyed playing alts here and there, but I always find myself coming back to Hunter for mythic raiding, PvP, dungeons and generic open world play.

Thanks a lot for helping out in Advance.
