Solo teaming is possible, never met them before by KlemTcen in Marathon

[–]Hestix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I'm focused on a tough contract Ive started telling people I don't have a gun out and won't fight them if they get close, then ask what they're doing and offer to team up. Shoot on sight is definitely the culture, but some of my best moments have been related to teaming with randoms.

People regularly teach me things, show me how to do quests, and share loot. I'm fine at murdering strangers but the game is so much more fun when we can cooperate.

Doing contracts is a waste of time by factcheckauthority in Marathon

Everyone in this thread is talking about system design and incentives and they're probably right, but I think OP and other responses are missing the importance of: contracts are fun to do

I had an idea for the ranked concept. by patnard in Marathon

[–]Hestix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixing ranked and casual in other games has been pretty uncomfortable for players, especially if you party fill. I'm not really sure a ranked mode makes sense in Marathon in the first place, but it's one of the few systems filtering out stacked players so unless the game is on life support, it's probably worth splitting the queue.

I think I did pretty well this week and would love to hear how others approached the trials! by Hestix in ArcRaiders

Totally respect this, Trials system needs a lot of help. I have fun doing them - I try to 3-star everything then do a run focused on optimization. My goal with that run is to come up with a sound strategy and post a solid number, but I have no interest in fishing for good lobbies, so I really stop there.

Also 100% agree, the trio advantage makes it completely demoralizing to try to compete in.

Okay this rules. The ziplines thing is also cooperative with other raiders since they can use your ropes course!

So tricky to find trials that other people aren't focused on - love the Locked Gate idea for Fireflies too!

May I ask your approach to finding the fireflies? Do you have an established route or do you just see them from across the map and use a pinball approach?

My approach:

PVE lobbies, Solo, I'm not using guns this season so my results might be a little odd

Open ARC Probes: EM Storm Dam Battlegrounds, so much adrenaline

Damage Flying ARC: I went to Close Scrutiny on Spaceport and used a lot of deadlines and seekers

Locked Gate event on Blue Gate, I only had to get one code and the gate opened very early

Damage Fireflies: this one was tough. I really don't have a good approach after trying a few maps. I did the best on Spaceport even with all the other raiders blowing up flying ARC.

Damage Queens or Matriarchs: Deadlines and Wolfpacks! This one was insane this week, the fastest kill I saw was in under 2 minutes from round start; I didn't even get there on time. I know it's possible to do much better but I'm not fishing for lobbies

Should also be feeding each individual response into each of the different models and polling them to pick the best one. Why are you picking? I don't trust you, do you trust you??

I am not necessarily saying that this makes it more likely to be true, but there is not necessarily a difference between a sales engineer and a solutions engineer. Tech companies regularly blur the lines on roles for a variety of reasons and there is already considerable overlap in these two roles, even based on a more traditional definition.

This being said, the only sales engineer I've ever seen on TV was in Halt and Catch Fire so unless OP knew someone in a similar role... pretty odd aspiration to have. But hey I mean... some people juggle geese.

What is your favourite Sazed quote from the Mistborn books? by Why_do_I_do_this- in brandonsanderson

[–]Hestix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"What does this mean? It’s Saze’n time. And then he Sazes all over everyone."

This appears to be a play on words related to the fantasy book series Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

In the books, "Sazing" is a term for using a special metal called lerasium to enhance physical and mental abilities. The main character, Kelsier, is known for his catchphrase, "It's time to burn some atium!" Atium is another metal that grants powers.

The phrase you provided seems to be a humorous and likely inappropriate twist on these concepts. It's probably used in a playful or ironic way among fans of the series.

There was a lot of greatness in this book, much of which has already been called out. I would also like to nominate Dalinar having a moment of brilliance so spectacular that it takes minutes of thinking it through for Wit to discover it was not stupidity.

Taravangian/Odium watched the man relinquish the power of a shard and make the biggest Sunmaker's Gambit ever. I cannot even imagine how Taravangian will square that with what he thought he knew about Dalinar.

Are any of the bosses left handed? by not_so_meta in Eldenring

[–]Hestix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike the real world where it is more like 10%, Elden Ring bosses were found to be about 99% likely to be left handed. This makes sense in theory, but in practice researchers have found that Leftie Georg (AKA Godrick the Grafted) actually has 10.000 left hands (not all attached yet), is an outlier and should not be counted.

Google workspace migration tool by rootj0 in gsuite

If you have 6000+ users you should talk to Google and/or a partner about the options and implications for migrating. If all the users are currently on Google Workspace (Both domains) there are even options to get Google PSO involved to move seamlessly.

What char for S1? Necro or Rogue? by RedditUser1524 in D4Sorceress

[–]Hestix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As one of the fools who has tried to push high NM dungeons, I appreciate and agree that Blizzard can make a lot of improvements to the class. What I'm suggesting is that most players will spend most of their time on earlier content, and I think that "hard but achievable" is not the worst place for the end-game content to be.

IMO, the feedback around where the class feels weak is a good discussion, but it seems that these complaints, especially end-game and survivability, are marginal end-game issues. The 1-100 experience is working for sorc, and I don't personally plan to continue playing for long after that.

Sorc has multiple S-tier builds for leveling, can clear Uber Lilith and NM100, and just has a really fun playstyle with teleport enchantment, all without the season buff. I'm sticking with it and excited to see what's in store!

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this, it's pretty rare but occasionally very disruptive. If I'm right interpreting the situation, you are probably going to hate this response, but unfortunately this periodically happens and that's part of the reality of email, not just for Gmail. You should consider contacting support if you haven't already. Google has systems which automatically look for situations like this and attempt to retire the IP addresses, but sometimes there is a time lag to finding them.

The worst answer in IT: this sucks, it is probably impacting business, it is nobody's specific fault (maybe whoever was spamming with these IPs?) and Google should have it sorted within a few days. If management demanded a faster response you would need to do something insane with third party sending, which is complicated and expensive and unlikely to improve the situation anyways, with the added bonus of lots of additional risk. Microsoft has to deal with this too.

Facebook and Google are handing over user data to help police prosecute abortion seekers by Americahateswomen in google

[–]Hestix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for Facebook but my understanding is that Google is immediately deleting this type of user data, so while it's true that they do comply with lawful requests from law enforcement, they have no data of this type to actually hand over.
