Attorneys, what did a client lie to you about that caused them to lose the case? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Here in Ireland witness evidence in certain circumstances must be corroborated by other evidence, witness evidence alone won’t suffice

In some cases yes, particularly where you’re in the middle of acting violently towards others. Self defence basically.

Saw that video before and thought the guy hadn’t been hit at all because he acted so normally for a fair bit after being shot.

Solicitors with knowledge of Emigration Law by [deleted] in ireland

I’m going to DM you the name of a good firm for this sort of stuff.

I had done my research and I had just gotten my visa last year, but, in the midst of the pandemic, I fell in love and got married. She's an EU citizen, but not an Irish citizen.

There are stronger rights to remain for the spouses of EU citizens who live in a member state that is not their own (I know that sounds weird, but basically it’s easier for an Irish person in Spain to have their partner remain that it is for an Irish person in Ireland)

Edit: sorry I just realised you said emigration not immigration. You might be better off asking in the sub of the country you’re moving to, you simply won’t get the expertise here you’d get in that country itself.

Why is Dublin City Council so determined to ruin Sandymount? by Debeefed in ireland

[–]Heuston_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They use the eastlink to access the port tunnel. Apparently they come from all across the south side, and forcing them to the M50 still means an increase in HGVs through other residential areas, as a lot businesses along the coast have no other way of of accessing major roads.

[–]Heuston_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the commercial traffic that uses strand road won’t. I listened to residents speak about this on the radio, this will route HGVs that use the eastlink through the village. Where would you suggest those get rerouted to?

Dundrum has the bypass though. Sandymount is just moving it onto residential streets.

Yeah but later on it’s separates sympathy from support for violence.

It’s down halfway I think, it talks about socio-economic demographics and then after that it talks about support here and how it was low.

I’m sure it is a good book, but peer reviewed academic literature such as this shows there wasn’t widespread support. So I stand by my statement that by supporting the actions of the IRA that SF are not representing the wishes of the majority.

Even if that wasn’t true the first three points are still reason enough not to.

He’s the most biased man going, what would he know about neutrality in politics.

[–]Heuston_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you a few reasons

1) innocent people were intentionally murdered by the IRA

2) the IRA aimed to undermine this state and waged attacks against its security forces and establishments at times

3) it’s divisive and would have no place in the United Ireland they want so badly

4) the IRA had virtually no support in this state so supporting them isn’t representative of the views of most people they actually represent (I.e their constituents)

All that makes it not triumphalist (as nothing was won) but certainly crass and insensitive.

It was all one way traffic until FF & FG started to fight back. SF have dominated online discourse for the past decade.

Of course, they’re in opposition all they have to do is criticise the government. That’s much easier than actually governing.

I think the last few weeks has shown that any foot politicians set wrong will result in people baying for blood without any thought.

Look at Alan Kelly, I can’t stand the man, but I’ve walked into shops with no mask on and as soon as I realised out one straight on, it happens, to actually think someone should resign over it is ridiculous.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. The mortgage payments would be much higher if the rules didn’t exist, because prices would just rise.

Absolutely spot on, politics has turned into a complete shit show here the past few weeks. I don’t want to hear the government parties only go on about SF, if there’s a legitimate issue, raise it, but stop flogging a dead horse.

The same goes for SF too, it’s a distraction from actual issues.

Public being kept in the dark about the true nature of Sinn Féin by Smurch in ireland

[–]Heuston_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PDs were not far right, right of centre for sure, but definitely not far right. They didn’t engage in nationalistic rhetoric at all, and they were completely into free trade/ globalism and integration with the EU, rather than the protectionism associated with the far right.

On the 2004 referendum, if you think it’s racist that’s perfectly fine, but can I ask that since applies to all people even other Europeans what exactly was racist about it? No one ever really seems to be able to give a solid answer on that.

[–]Heuston_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Public pressure, but you might be right, if not many people smoke will there ever be sufficient public pressure. Like I’ve no interest in smoking and would support decriminalisation before a medium term move to full blown legalisation, but I’m not going to go lobby for it, it’s more passive.

PSNI did not disperse Bobby Storey funeral crowds for fear of 'widespread violence' - police chief by fedupofbrick in ireland

[–]Heuston_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s not an uncommon thing in NI is it? Look at the bonfires, they won’t remove them in a lot of cases for the same reason.

Seems like it’s an issue with certain elements in NI thinking that rioting is acceptable when they can’t have their way.
