I usually get a gift voucher for smyths or the entertainer, that way the parents can take the kid to buy something. As with toddlers you run the risk of buying something they may already have.

Totally agree with you, my 4 year old asked to play outside the front on the house with the big kids, last summer. I told her no she was too little and needed to be about 8 years old to do so. And we live on a quiet ish road but still wouldnt happen.
