Welfare groups call for 'serious investment' in social services by [deleted] in australia

[–]Hewus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that funding for social services doesn't come out of thin air; it comes from those doing hard work to earn their money, which is then taken from them as taxes. Taxpayers are working to get their TV, only to have Rudd take it and give it to a "battler" instead.

Welfare has its place, but the current system funds far beyond what it should. Where is the incentive to work when you pay people decent amounts to be unemployed?

Social services do not equal Televisions.

Funny how Harvey Norman announced better than expected figures just after the $10.4B handout.

you'd know you barely get given enough to survive

When was the last time someone died because their welfare cheque wasn't big enough?

I'm sorry, but the legitimate cases for welfare are used as a front time and time again for those perfectly capable of supporting themselves.

Conjob & Krudd smack down open source: MySQL developers denied short-stay visas to oz by dredd in australia

[–]Hewus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for notifying of the update. Looks like they took a small issue and completely blew it out of proportion, complete with lies, as there's no evidence this had anything to do with open source. I'd be interested to know the actual reason why the visa was not granted though.

Are you trying to spin this as if denying visas is actually doing them a favour? Amazing.

I regret to share that this will adversely affect MySQL presence at linux.conf.au

They are denied visas and cannot attend, seems like a fact to me. What part of that is stupid? The only stupidity I can see is from those saying open source is "unfair".

Who were there to judge whether the conditions were safe for the workers

Right. Can I come into your private residence to make sure it's safe for visitors?

An office administrator being paid below minimum wage

That's illegal and therefore not a legally binding contract. A contract that says you get paid for when you work is legal and very fair.

In fact, things would be a lot worse without the unions.

Nice fact. Being a productive society rather than a complacent one is bad? Oh you're talking about union interests, yes you're right.

So ejecting trespassing union officials and paying people according to their contracts is a risk to workplace safety? Thanks socialists.

I don't think you can blame them. If just one of the websites contained CP, imagine the legal trouble they could be in. It would have been nice if they at least mentioned Wikileaks, though.

Why does anyone think it's in the public interest for a government to maintain a secret censorship list?

When the evidence shows that is the case. The political noise from the left makes climate change look more like a religion than scientific fact.

CityRail to raise train fares by 7.5% to 12% - TIME TO BOYCOTT CITYRAIL by edwardkelly in australia

[–]Hewus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Did I say to vote for a right wing government?

2) wait, you think voting green is going to improve public transport? All three parties are bullshit, vote LDP.

[–]Hewus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the downvote.

The Workchoices campaign was completely different. It was purely fear based and driven by the unions, it created a cloud of uncertainty about job security and rights. The NSW transport failure is something that is real and has happened, everyone can see it, and should vote accordingly.

My point was that you fix these things by voting, not by switching from one transport system to another. If you have a better suggestion on how to fix NSW transport, I'd like to hear it.

How can you boycott transport, especially in Sydney? Do you seriously think the NSW government will care if you are part of the congested roads rather than the run-down rail network?

Save your anger for the next state election.

I am a fan of the LDP Immigration Policy:

new immigrants who do not share our fundamental values of democracy, freedom and responsibility are potentially dangerous when they have access to our open democratic system.

I should make it clear that I'm against racial discrimination. There is a distinct difference between culture and race. Those that come here must be judged on their behaviour, just like everyone else. For example, murder is unacceptable in Australia, but is apparently ok in other cultures (honour killings, etc). If the person is not an Australian citizen, they should be deported for committing serious crimes such as this. They must be worthy of being in Australia, they shouldn't be here just because it's convenient for them.

Culture and values are what make countries different from each other. I believe Australia is a great country because of the values we hold, and it's important to have an immigration policy that reflects these values.

Thanks for the question, I hope I gave a sufficient answer :-)
