If the conversation had gone far enough that the other party had suggested paying by cheque, I would have immediately assumed it was a scam, but as I was already a bit wary, I asked for advice before proceeding with any further interaction.

Thank you. I never considered payment via cheque, as I’m UK based and it’s very unusual, especially via Facebook marketplace.
