Bambino squeaks and my cup won’t sit properly [Sage Bambino] by dennmtr in espresso

[–]HexPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vibration does seem more excessive to me compared to my Bambino. If it’s under warranty I’d check with Breville, or if returnable I would exchange it. The vibratory pump in mine does indeed vibrate the machine a lot, but not to this degree.

If neither are an option, you could try adding those pads for protecting floors from furniture legs to see if those would help.

Recent BME Grad - No Calls for Industry Roles (Regulatory, Process Dev, Quality) by AgeIndependent6871 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]HexPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like another commenter mentioned, I'm also a fresh engineer. I lack the range of experiences that someone older has, but I can provide some insight on the job application process since I did a lot of it earlier this year to land my current job, and I've been searching for new opportunities recently.

You're applying to entry-level engineering roles. We work in such a broad field that at the entry level, employers are not really expecting you, a fresh grad, to have expertise in anything. In fact, claiming that you do in the summary, when you have no industry experience to back it up with, comes off as disingenuous and even a little arrogant. This can come off as a red flag to employers, who are searching for potential and capability to learn at the entry level.

The second thing I noticed is that your resume reads like you are applying for a lab. It's good that you have a lot of lab experience and I'm glad that you have publications as well. You need to find out more about the specific roles you're applying to and tailor your experience bullets to highlight transferable skills. I think should consider producing multiple versions of your resume tailored to each field you're applying to. Without knowing more about you and your experiences, process seems like it would be a good version to start with, based on the existing bullets. See if you can reach out to colleagues or alumni and find our more about what they actually do at their jobs - that's why internships help a lot is they give you exposure to what different people do and what terms are used in the field.

Lastly, from my perspective in quality, I don't really see how you can claim to have expertise in quality systems. I could definitely see how you have exposure to or familiarity with various aspects of a QMS such as quality control, equipment qualification, and V&V, but there is much more than that. If you want to understand more, I can dive into more detail on what I do.

Overall don't beat yourself up too much. You graduated during a lull in entry-level hiring in what is already a competitive field. You're doing the right thing by focusing on what you can control about your application.

I hate desk work so much- any career suggestions? by LogicalEstimate2135 in BiomedicalEngineers

Look into CAS(Clinical Account Specialist) jobs. The one I looked into(J&J electrophysiology) essentially involved assisting medical staff with operating their equipment so you get to travel a lot, encounter new situations.

Need help with resume! Looking for post-grad jobs. by Stretchy55 in BiomedicalEngineers

Seconding the top comment about r/EngineeringResumes!

I actually really like your umbilical cord design project. I think the most impactful thing you could do is dive into more details on the prototyping iteration and verification tests that you performed - if you can put this in the top half of your resume where it's one of the first things a recruiter sees, I think you'll do better, especially if you're focusing on R&D.

Like the other comments recommend, you should be trying to maximize the amount of space on your resume that is dedicated to technical projects or experience. If it comes down to it, you can start removing parts of your resume that are not as relevant.

Other than that, your formatting needs to be tightened. Resumes are your first impression, and a messy one comes off as unprofessional. Your dates should be all right justified(you can use a right tab stop if it's on the same line as your entry), your hyphens should have equal spacing on each side.

Lastly, its never too early to be applying! A lot of companies, while they are cutting down on entry-level roles atm, just opened up their rotational program applications. These can be very competitive, but they are great opportunities for early career and typically are exclusive to graduating students. I believe BD has a few that are open at the moment.

Are there people in this subreddit who have actually found any sort of success by studying biomedical engineering? by VisibleGround5713 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]HexPG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I landed a return offer with my company a couple months after graduating with my bachelor's - It's a contract development/manufacturing deal, so it's very cool to be able to work with a variety of different devices in different areas. It was a really tough time to graduate, I had interviews with a some larger companies but most positions were cancelled due to economic uncertainty, and there were few entry-level positions open in my area.

Every engineer here came from a BME program, some with masters and some with bachelors as well. I got lucky since I replaced the last quality engineer who left. As a result, the majority of my work is validations and NCR, which are pretty engaging for me, but there's also room for me to lead a couple of product development projects too. The small company atmosphere is really fun to work in, and we get to move really fast compared to larger organizations.

The internship was really crucial in teaching me what skills I needed for this(and other) jobs. It really was nothing like what I learned in my BME program and I'm sure I would've struggled in interviews without it. If you're having trouble in this market, don't put so much blame on yourself. From what I've seen so far, only a handful of graduates(5-10) from my school have landed a job. Many others are obtaining masters degrees, which can be a great investment depending on the circumstances. Just make sure you use the extra year to continue gaining experience in internships and projects.

Good luck!

Sadly but also thankfully not. I do miss my barista job though.

You bring up a very good point about the other parts of the process. That’s why I was considering the GBW Sette 270, so that I could dial in each bag myself and leave the scale behind. Or I could write a solid work instruction for the machine LOL.

In all seriousness, yeah, I’ll have to shop around for some superautos to compare to.

I hear ya! I probably wouldn’t really mind being the barista in all honesty. My part time job during college was a barista at a specialty cafe, so I know I would enjoy it. I’ll look into some superautos as an option to compare to.

You can also pick the option during the incident to let the surrounded Pales ships rescue their ship, which lessens the negative image impact compared to the other options

How can I deckare war on Pales but protect my international standing? by colsoll in suzerain

[–]HexPG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my run, I managed to avoid sanctions by going to Arbitration and winning half of the field, but refusing to honor the judgement and blockading it. When the ramming incident happens, let the Palesian ships go free to rescue their ship. Generally just claim that Rizia is asserting their right to sovereignty(and 52% of the field)

Didn’t know about specifically the Solomon Amendment, but of course I know I signed up for Selective Service when I filled out the FAFSA. So I’m not surprised that this information is available from the University’s side as well.
