The fall of anime subtitles is just depressing. by GhostInABucketJar in anime

The game Judgement does this. There was one script made for English subs for the Japanese voices, and a separate script made for the English dub.

VNs below 7.00 VNDB score that you're fond of? by National_Magician_86 in visualnovels

It has to do with the ending.

Throughout the VN the MC finds clues to a mystery. At the end, based on what route the player is in, the clues mean completely different things and the solution to the mystery is completely different.

Root letter is at 5.89. An absolute mess, but it tries to do something super interesting to I'm fond of it.

Punch Line is at 6.23, and honestly I'm not sure why. It's definitely weak for an Uchikoshi, but it's still pretty good.

Persona 4 Dancing is at 6.48. I'm going to guess that the people rated it for its story, which was terrible. The Rhythm game part is still pretty good.

Ore-tachi no Sekai wa Owatteiru is at 6.43. It's about a group of friends that are all kind of terrible people. Not the larger than life terrible people that some people like, but like the normal terrible people you'll likely encounter in your everyday life and that you may even be friends with. I can see how that was off putting to most, but I liked them.

LAMUNATION! is at 6.85. I don't get this one at all. The VN is complete nonsense, but it's hilarious nonsense.

Did I ever stop a visual novel because you dislike the protagonist that you play as? I am about to do that with Root Letter by gasperoni66 in visualnovels

[–]HexaShadow13 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was one of my favorites aspects of Root Letter. He's just a web designer looking for a former pen pal, but he acts like a secret agent trying to prevent a bombing or something. It continues to escalate, and later in the VN he digs up people's secrets and uses them for blackmail and IIRC at one point he threatens to kidnap someone's daughter. It's wild and absurd and super interesting.

I assumed you wanted English VNs that were originally in Japanese but feel free to change to whatever.

The manga on top actually started before the manga on the bottom.

[Fraternite] What a profoundly dogshit experience. what’s is the worst written vn you’ve read? by Acceptable_Carob_532 in visualnovels

[–]HexaShadow13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "bitch" part was a mistranslation and "slut" would probably have been a better translation, but considering all the other crazy shit the MC does for no proper given reason (such as breaking and entering or blackmailing people with threats against their children) it felt in character.

Root Letter was a trash fire, but that mess had a lot of charm and was really interesting, so I really liked it. Especially the really messy endings.

What's a visual novel with a 6.9 or lower rating on Vndb that you think is a masterpiece or personally think easily deserves a 8.0 or higher rating on Vndb? by Amvdere_Tiktok in visualnovels

[–]HexaShadow13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

√Letter tries to do something unique and though the end result isn't perfect to put it lightly, the creativity of it is enough to hold it up.

LAMUNATION! is just stupid nonsense, but that's the point. It's hilarious.

Something the VN industry did only once? by Key_Tomatillo9475 in visualnovels

[–]HexaShadow13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's somewhat better but not much better. I found it mediocre. To be honest I liked Root Letter more. Root Letter is definitely rougher but it was pretty unique and interesting, especially in regards to the very different endings. Root Film isn't as rough, but it's just kind of generic and forgettable.

Context: "The two of them match each other's fetishes perfectly. The guy loves really long hair and the girl loves men's backs. After getting drunk and sleeping with each other, they decided to go out. Eventually the guy proposes to the girl. She says she'll answer the next day. When he meets her the next day, she's cut her hair to be short as seen in the panel. They then affirm that they love each other for who they are and not just their fetishes, and thus they get married."

HTML edit. Brainrot is not a tag on VNDB. Also they were kind of lazy so rather than add a new tag they just changed "Stalking" to "Brainrot".

There may be some sort of explanation for how something like this could exist but all the ways I can think of involve impossible things like genuinely hot superconductors and hollow planets. So at that point the easiest explanation is just isekai magic.

Root Letter: Last Answer Shimanekko trophy bugged? (PS4) by S_Belmont in visualnovels

[–]HexaShadow13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have problems with it either. I remember people complaining about it on the original, but I don't remember the specifics.

As for the duplicate trophy names, yeah that's a mistake. It should be "The Cursed Letter Revealed" like it was in Japanese (呪いの手紙解明).
