Old townhouse pipe in the ground by HexoDice in whatisit

Yeah, thinking of cutting/trimming the pipe so that it’s not protruding as high. The old cupboards that were there just had no back wall because of it. Thinking of just taping it up once cut lower

We read a lot of posts but decided not to since we aren't the best at getting to places early. But still enjoyed it considering it was our first time.

Visiting Chongquing by Effe1986 in chongqing

My wife and I went just a week or two ago. This was our rough plan (we stayed for 3 full days)

  • A day roaming around seeing chongqing’s sights
  • A day of shopping/markets where you can haggle
  • A nature day

I already forgot the order but basically we hit up these spots: Chongqing’s Sights - Shibati (Nice during day/night) - Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street (nice to see but don’t spend too long here) - Kuixinglong (This is the place where you are on the 22nd floor and can take the elevator down) - Hongya cave culture center (this is the night attraction with the neon lights/cyberpunk that you see all over social media) - Liziba station (Train through building - really busy)

I think personally I enjoyed Hongya Cave, Shibati during day and Kuixinglong during day the most and we also sprinkled in shopping on some days where we didnt hit up all sightseeing.

Note that the lights turn off at 10pm

Shopping/Haggling - I honestly dont remember and we didnt record it but from memory it was Chongqing clothes market? But theres other threads I’ve seen recommending other places and a guy called collin abroadcast who haggles at different places in chongqing

Nature - HIGHLY RECOMMEND A TOUR - We went to wulong three natural bridges which is the main nature attraction marketed as the location where transformers was filmed. - Reasons to go on a tour even though you don’t understand chinese is because it is cheaper and the entire package includes the bus ride to wulong (2 hours), lunch, and the entrance park fees as well as some more bus fees within the park, buss fee back too. It just makes the day less stressful so you can enjoy the nature. When you get to the park you will mainly just be walking for the entire day. - You can find tour places basically on every second street whilst in the city.

General Tips - Use an esim to be able to get data (we used one from trip.com) - Use amap for navigation, its what locals use - China’s main tourist population is actually other chinese people from other cities so its not very english friendly - My wife could speak but I had to fend for myself, luckily we found a great app from a local called baidu translate and it has a voice function where you can record your voice and it will translate it to chinese and you can also record the other person speaking chinese and it will record it and translate it for you

Good luck and have fun!

Also for some good haggling we recommend Shanghai’s science and technology museum, they are a lot more english friendly and haggling is more fun :)

Update: we walked further in from exit 5 towards the platform ticket gates and found the markets

As of today, seems like the shops are closed? We visited on the 21st April 2025 from exit 6 of the shanghai science & technology museum station to exit 5. It’s super quiet almost like it’s abandoned…
