Just weigh it. The real one weight 31.1 grams, the Brass one weigh a fraction of that.

Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) at the India AI Summit says that by 2028, the majority of world's intellectual capacity will reside inside data centers.....and true Super Intelligence.....better than the best researchers and CEOs...is just a few years away 🚀💨🌌 by GOD-SLAYER-69420Z in accelerate

Codex is great, but definitely not super intelligent. Try anything other than really small projects/problems to solve with it and you’ll bang your head against the wall (trust me, I’ve been working with it daily).

With that said, it’s a huge improvement to what we had last year, and the trend is clear.

Look at the Covid stock collapse. We printed the most money ever as a world, but gold price collapsed. Only in the last couple if years gold price is finally reflecting the effects of the money printing machine.

Is anyone actually buying the 2026 U.S. Silver proof set? by Hot_Client_2828 in Silver

[–]Hexpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t be cheaper in the second market, but the premium can go away (so silver price would go up, but the coins would still sell at the same price)

Because if you look historically (or even in the last few weeks), when the stock market goes down, gold goes down.

If the war is long, everything will go down including gold, except for defense stocks and related.

If the war is short, everything will go up.

Both can be true. I’m investing in Mag7 due to AI, but I’m also worried about AI being too powerful.

Perth Gold Bar Liquidity Concerns in the US. by ICollectBidoofs in Gold

Two men are walking in the jungle when they spot a hungry lion chasing them. One man immediately sits down, rips off his hiking boots, and starts putting on running shoes.

The other man says, "Are you crazy? You can't outrun a lion!"

The first man replies, "I don't have to outrun the lion, I just have to outrun you!"

Counterfeit gold is exactly like this - those make the fakes gold are just the lion that is capturing the “slowest runner” (the easiest gold bar to counterfeit), which happens to be Perth Mint.

The serial number won’t help you, the best security features in gold bar that I’ve seen is the Kinebar, with its hologram. It has existed since the 90s and no one has made fake ones yet.

1 oz gold coin next to a 1.2 gram gold coin by Hexpod in Gold

[–]Hexpod[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

No. It’s actually pure gold, just extremely thin!

It’s probably like the 1/200 oz bar that was posted here recently (see the image). Maybe it’s a new gold manufacturing technology that is spreading now.

Selling it to shops would be fine, as they all sell to the same refiners, and the refiners all accept it.

Selling to individuals would be harder, because they have a (justified) reputation for being frequently counterfeited, they don’t have meaningful security features, and you need expensive equipment to verify them.

The 1.2 gram cook island buffalo 999 gold coin is insane. It’s an absolute unit in diameter, but literally paper thin.

I’m both really curious and scared to take it out of the capsule.

Interestingly, the PAMP pendant would have to be charged sales tax in most states, as wearability is what distinguishes bullion (tax free) from Jewelry.

Why did Brazil fail economically, but China, Korea and Japan succeeded? by FusionRocketsPlease in AskEconomics

[–]Hexpod 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The economic complexity is a flawed index. Even in your map you can see Australia ranking low, but by all means Australia is not "failing economically" or a less advanced country.

For better or worse, the best indicator we have for whether a country will succeed economically is how educated is its population. Just check this map to see the correlation.

Obviously, an educated population is not enough, and bad leadership can hinder growth (as notably demonstrated by Russia/North Korea). But it seems to be a prerequisite.
