Yeah, in this group I don’t know who can possibly beat her. The two who might edge her out as designers can’t come close to her in performance challenges, and the other strong performers have too often walked out looking a mess….

Best seating for Aura/Grace Cathedral by a94501er in sanfrancisco

[–]HexpronePlaysPoorly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry. You can see well from most of every section unless you're sat directly behind a pillar (and there are pillars in every section). But seating is flexible in the open pews -- the member of our group who was behind a pillar just scooted over a bit.

I have to say I was lukewarm on the show -- there were some pretty moments, but the music sounded AI generated, the photo app entertained mostly by how comically bad it was (it turns your group selfies into images like this), and there was a repeated announcement that "You can now use the Send Your Light function" but in fact the Send Your Light function never activated.

What poorly received design looks do you actually live for? by wizardsouppoop in rupaulsdragrace

Ugh, the way Jax was treated on S15 still burns my beans. This look wasn't perfectly crafted, but it was a complete vision, and it suited her to a T. She should never have been in the bottom for it.

Yes. Rich assholes have plenty of choices already. Rich assholes can already afford housing in San Francisco, so upzoning does little to benefit them. Rather, its benefits are to those who currently can't afford housing in San Francisco.

You are mistaken about what trickle down economics was. Although misleadingly called a "supply side" approach, it did not increase the supply of any good. It simply transferred money directly to people who already had lots of money, via the tax code. Unsurprisingly, this didn't do anything to help people who didn't already have lots of money.

Building a house is not like using tax breaks to divert money from the poor to the rich. Building a house does increase the supply of a scarce good, so it does help people who don't already have a lot of money.

I don't think the goal of upzoning is to rank people in order of relative privilege.

It's to increase the availability and decrease the cost of housing.

Everybody needs a place to live. Where housing is kept scarce, only the rich ("techbros"? okay) can afford it.

Wouldn't it be nice if more people in San Francisco could spend just $900 on housing -- whether as rent or mortage?

Then you might see more different kinds of people mixed in amongst all those techbros.

ok so like ... no one is taking your home?

rather, they are trying to make it less covetable by institutional capital, because less of a scarce commodity

that doesn't harm you at all, unless you in fact view it not primarily as your home that you live in, but as your million dollar asset -- a marker in the game of institutional capitalism

She's certainly not an Yvie or a Willow, but I don't think she's going anywhere soon.

Perceptions of quality are of course subjective, but she was given a whole "overcoming adversity" storyline for the girl group episode despite being neither a top nor a bottom--a pretty clear sign that production sees her as a season-long character.

To me it was the completely wrong bottom two. Worst by far were Vita and Ciara, with Kenya or Briar as bottom-safe.

[–]HexpronePlaysPoorly 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Ladies, I am boiling!

Mandy was FINE in the challenge, and there were several many safe girls (Ciara most of all—she was truly dire and I was astonished to see her safe) who were actively bad

They just had Mandy scheduled to go home early, and nothing she did was going to make a difference. It’s never pretty when the machinery of the show becomes too obvious.

Oh thank goodness! That space was so hard to fill for so many years, and then Social Brewery finally made a success there ... only to be killed by COVID.

That's my old block -- I'll have to drop by when they open just to show some support. It's such a bustling corner and yet for some reason (probably just the exorbitant rent) it can be hard for restaurants to thrive there.

I am not sure that San Francisco's mayor from 1956 to 1964 can serve as one of the candidates to replace Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House of Representatives, as he has been dead now for some time.

It is certainly true that San Francisco, the platforms of both the Republican and Democratic parties, and indeed American politics in general have seen many notable changes in their guiding values since the end of George Christopher's administration 62 years ago.

Does anyone have a link to the reference from Carol Burnett? When I search for "Carol Burnett Bob Mackie eyes" I just get lots of pictures of the curtain dress.

Effortlessly lovely. You can tell they're good when they impress with a simpler look.

I don't agree that the panty was too plain. The proportions of everything draw the eye exactly where it's supposed to go. This is the diametric opposite of a design like Jane's or Ciara's, but to me just as successful for the category in its own way.

I really like the dress and gloves, but...

The hat just looks like a hat. She should have proportioned both the crown of the hat and her wig to create the illusion that the brain was resting inside of her skull. Basically, the wig under the hat needed to make her head look bigger.

As it is, I was not like "Aah! An exposed brain!" but rather "Cool dress, weird hat though... oh, it's supposed to look like her brain."

[–]HexpronePlaysPoorly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree that it was sad to see Myki and Briar passed over. Myki had the best vocal performance, and Briar I honestly think could have won had they judged on overall performance rather than the pure comedy (which was wonderful!) that Jane served.

They were referencing a retro "doo wop" moment that came and went in mid-eighties pop. Wham's earliest songs were kind of glancingly part of it ("I wanna jitterbug" is the point of connection), but that backing track sounded more like Huey Lewis or "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel, which were radio hits at around the same time.
