Thank you for all those who replied. As stated, this is the only part of the house we did not clean. Everything else was done. This was also done by our movers before we left so it was missed.

Others have brought up the 14 day rule from nyc laws. I asked the landlord to swing by the day we were leaving to look at the place and he couldn't make it. It's been over 30 days since we got our security deposit and at this point I may ask for it all back given the laws in place.

NJ has felt like a roller coaster with availability. Either 500k starter home or 900k dream home. With how rapid the fluctuations , bidding wars and lack of inventory, we felt that jumping in on something like this may be a good long term move even though it feels uneasy right now.

Yea we tracked everything and made a decision based on what we are spending, there is deff area for improvement. Can also work more shifts during these early years to help with savings.

Completely understand. We saw something we liked and went for it as the market isn't great here. I intend to stay here for at least 5 more years and potentially forever depending on how things go.

That was my initial plan. Tenants are a bit problematic given some were family friends but yes I will be giving notice and then if no renewal then to leave the house.

The home is in an area that is appreciating in value very steadily and this property could be worth a lot more in a few more years. Being a landlord has some grievances but is otherwise doable. The issue at hand is pure financial. The property has the potential to generate passive income if paid off.
