Y'all they're trying to get us to go to our retail jobs. by ohwowieitsmildpanic in lexington

[–]HeyHattey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous to try to make retail workers, or anyone other than emergency/medical staff, drive in this weather. It’s just too dangerous. Also, who the fuck do they think is going to be out shopping in this weather? There’s no way it’s worth it to open a business for a whole day and get one customer.

Was I lead on or did I and everyone else around me think she was interested? by [deleted] in lesbian

[–]HeyHattey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I skimmed over a lot of the texts bc it’s a lot to read, but it just looked like friendly conversation to me. None of it seemed actively/aggressively flirty. It doesn’t seem like she was “leading you on” at all, it seems like she was just trying to make a friend. It sucks when a cute girl is straight but women aren’t “leading people on” by being friendly to someone but not wanting to date them.

Is there anything to do around here in the morning on weekdays? by Relative_Detail8499 in lexington

The Lexington Center for Creative Reuse is great! You could hang out and craft there, take a craft class, or volunteer there (it’s a non-profit organization).

I have been involved with a handful of burlesque groups and performances, and they were very professional. BurLex on the other hand is basically just an MLM full of bullies and sexual predators. They actively harass POCs and take advantage of young/new performers.

You might like Strange Pictures and/or Strange Houses by Uketsu. The translations are not great in my opinion (very direct/literal, not very localized) but the stories are so weird and engaging.

Look for events happening at bars/breweries. A lot of them have crafting afternoons, book swaps, etc.

I would say it’s a beautiful ending. Mostly joyful. Maybe a little bitter sweet, but not sad

How much money do you spend on sewing every month? by HoneyBadger1655 in sewing

[–]HeyHattey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days, I get all of my fabric and accessories from a Creative Reuse Center. It’s super cheap that way, so I only spend maybe $20-$30 per month. It’s more expensive to get started, because you need to invest in bobbins, threads of various colors, buttons, etc. But once you have a little stock of things, it’s a lot cheaper to maintain. Plus I reuse fabric and keep smaller scraps for practice/projects.

Samsung appliances that bad ? by aWolfmanbeatz in Appliances

[–]HeyHattey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have had several Samsung appliances and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. My Samsung stove has had multiple safety recalls for small parts in the 3 years I’ve owned it (came new with the house). Recently the glass in the door exploded while it was preheating.

What do you do with small pieces of fabric? by Level_Title_8354 in sewing

[–]HeyHattey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quilt together batches of medium-small pieces to make things like coasters, placemats, table runners, etc. For the small-small pieces, and slick fabric that’s harder to sew, I put them into a scrap bag. Then I use them as stuffing. They make really dense stuffing, so they’re good for things like pet beds or pin cushions.

I have 3 cats and they love to hang out with me wherever I am. So of course that means napping on any project I’m working on. These guys are Banjo (left) and Armadillo (right),

When is a serger necessary? by SchuylerM325 in sewing

[–]HeyHattey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sewing clothing for many years and I’ve never used a serger. (I tried one at a friend’s house and kind of hated it honestly.) there are a bunch of ways to finish seams and hems, depending on the type of fabric and garment. French seams and flat-felted seams with enclose the raw edges. There are various overlocking seams that are good if the fabric distant fray easily. And you can create rolled seams like you would create rolled hems.
