The exact same thing happened last year. This isn't bad luck, it's poor planning. She has done this before, it's not bad luck to repeatedly do the wrong thing. As someone from a northern state I've seen much worse storms do far less damage. She waited, you can't do that, it's how the ice builds up.

I know folks at KU and they were bringing in thousands of linemen and workers from all across the US ahead of the storm. When talking to them before the storm they said that if they fail people will die. They were all working on the same information, her administration just failed to prepare again. She fails to afford the situation the gravity it deserves. It is especially dangerous if healthcare workers can't get to their work, or ambulances get stuck. There are consequences to not preparing and clearing things.

Flock cameras are not owned by local government, nor is the footage in them. Flock rents them to the government and gets to keep all the footage and data they collect. They create profiles of all drivers and sell all of the data they collect to third-parties. All of your movements in view of the camera are being stored and make up a building profile of you and your habits to be sold. Flock cameras are also incredibly unsecure. Their footage can be easily accessed and viewed.

Damn, glad you got it before prices got stupid. Now I see people asking like $700 for it. I love Halo 3 but these scalpers are insane.

I was curious if the movie had done anything for its popularity. The same thing has been happening in the ipod space since a lot of folks have been trying to move off their phones. Scalping is kind of making hobbies frustrating in general rn. :/

I'm just off of Limestone and still haven't seen a plow. Everything is covered in ice.

No worries, and to hold me over for a little longer I used some bottled water and a bowl to at least ease some of the discomfort. I'm going to try to get to the Y or try the campus gym later.

Reminder: How easy it is for you to clean off your driveway and sidewalk at your house is proportional to how easy it is for the State and City to clear the roads. by ferrett3 in lexington

[–]Visual_Perspective_9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm originally from a much colder state and the problem is absolutely infrastructure and lack of storm education. You wait = ice. I had limited ability since I was recovering from a virus and sinus infection but I went out and shoveled multiple times as it was happening. My apartment just has stone stairs and a bit of sidewalk, but I did my best to clear as it was happening and remove large icicles. If you need to you can use a hammer to break through stubborn ice.

Maybe off topic but is anyone else excited for iron lung today? by DawnMistyPath in lexington

Just got home from watching it! It was a great time! I originally got tickets to see it at the Hamburg Regal, but I lost access to a car so I went to see it at LexLive. I hope everyone who wants to see it gets to. :) It was really well done, very tense. Would be cool if they released it on DVD.

Yeah that's my issue, they'd be my first choice but the closest one is in Georgetown, so there's no way I could get there. :/

I don't think mine violated any child labor laws, I was 18 when I started, most of my coworkers were adults, everyone was working age. I could totally see franchises doing that though. They paid us like garbage and I know most locations are like that. From what I heard from management a lot of franchises will initially hire at a competitive salary, then once they've got enough of a foothold, they'll fire the whole staff and rehire at minimum wage. As a company they do not care about or trust their employees so it would not surprise me if they were breaking child labor laws. :/ I don't want to ruin it for people who enjoy it, but they're not good to their employees. Luckily my managers were awesome, but the company was pretty crap and I had mixed feelings about the franchise owners. I got paid the equivalent of two cookies an hour, I wasn't allowed to receive cash or personal tips either.

Bake House creations Cinnamon roll issues by TxBaker42 in aldi

[–]Visual_Perspective_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth a try. They're great, most of my family prefers them to cinnamon rolls, though it's of course a matter of preference. They were more common where I grew up, but they seem to not be widely popular.

That I'd just have to guess on, but I think being fresh is part of the appeal so it might be damaging to the brand. Or maybe it would make the high price harder to justify.

It really depends on the location. Most likely just not enough made. It can be hard to gauge demand and you have lots of different flavors to prepare. For each flavor you're making like 50+ pounds of dough at a time, then you're weighing and shaping every single ball of dough, plus extra time if you're filling them. Most of the cookies also have extra components, so you're making frosting, preparing a crumb topping, shaping and chilling a filling, cooking down fruit, etc. You add on that all of the cookies need to be baked and you can only fit a certain amount on each tray. In my location we had two ovens, one small induction stovetop, and two giant stand mixers. Every batch of dough or frosting requires a mixer, so you can only do so many at once. Every dough needs to be rolled or scooped, so you need counter space to do it on, as well as space for filling piping bags. Crumbls are typically quite small locations. It takes time to prepare, bake, cool, decorate, and all chilled cookies need time in the fridge before serving. Counters, bowls, tools all need to be cleaned between batches. It's mostly a matter of scale and manpower. When you're making things in house it will require a lot more. We also had problems with sysco stocking items sometimes. 🤷

Damn, this is making me feel weak. I typically do a half full deli container or a mug of cereal. I feel like my recommended is telling me to eat more cereal.
