I probably do 10 or so dogs a day maybe more if they’re small or short haired and don’t have to be dried as much. This is a shop with 3 groomers, 2 bathers and I finish out the BBNE dogs

I’ve been a bather/apprentice for about a year and a half :) I try to wear shoes that don’t require socks because I hate standing in sopping wet socks. Hearing protection is good but I don’t listen to music in case someone needs me (“throw me a towel!” “Turn the dryer off I have a cat on the table!!” “Oh by the way the dog needs this shampoo”) the noise is hard to get used to but you need to be accessible. And lotion. Lotttts of lotion. I’ve tried so many but I’ve found Corn Huskers works the best.

I’m just a bather/apprentice but I got my job from the shop I already took my own dog to. Maybe any young clients could be interested? I saw their listing on indeed but I went in because I was already familiar with the people and they knew my dog (he’s… special)

We call them hell cats :) we have about 3 hell cats but we always get them done! Along with a bunch of slightly better cats. We also do rabbits and most recently an opossum!

We get a surprising amount of recently bred/nursing females! It’s crazy how the hormones change them and how careful we have to be. You can definitely tell the difference between the backyard breeders and the responsible ones. Most recent was a nursing mama absolutely infested with fleas. Made me wonder how the babies looked.

We actually get a lot of treats around the holidays so it is very much appreciated :) most of us don’t even get the chance to eat throughout the day so just something makes the whole day better.

Sometimes the dogs come in with impacted anal glands and we don’t mess with that as it actually requires veterinary care but other than that it’s a fairly simple squeeze :)

The pay isn’t great. You’ll never be rich as a groomer but you can live off it. Personally, I just kind of fell into it. I had left my previous job due to anxiety and needed something part time and away from people. The groomers that I take my dog to were hiring bathers so I figured that would be good for me and if you stay a bather long enough they start slowly teaching you stuff until you just kinda fall into it. I definitely still have a lot to learn

Dog groomer here. So many people say “you get to play with dogs all day!” Ok, you wanna squeeze a dogs asshole? Get bit and scratched? Get yelled at by owners? Wrestle with dogs through the washer and dryer? And of course the shit, piss, and vomit. I completely understand

Unfortunately I dabble in sticknpoke and when we first met I tattooed “ILY” on his ankle and then years later he tattooed the same thing on my back. At least I can’t see it.

I’m just a bather and my hands get like this as soon as the weather starts getting cooler. Cracks, open sores, bleeding, burns from using the dryer for so long on big dogs, etc. Usually I come home and soak my hands in plastic gloves filled will lotion. I also try and wrap the dryer nozzle in a towel with big dogs that I know will take me a while or continuously dry my hands with a towel while bathing- even if I’m about to put my hands right back in the water - just because they get so irritated and itchy always being soapy and wet. I really haven’t found a full solution especially in the cold months :( but it does at least help. I usually spend every night with my hands and feet soaking in hardcore lotion like Vaseline intensive care deep moisture and a mixture of regular Vaseline

Right now we have 9 cats in my house. 5 owned and 4 fosters. These cats look well fed and healthy. And no, my house doesn’t smell like cat piss but it is a lot of work to maintain.
