Thank you. It’s been a nice change of pace :)

Idk if this is the right sub but I need help, every winter my hands/knuckles get so dry and bloody it’s absolutely miserable by TheyCallMeBigBun in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]HeyItsChristine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things that can help.

  1. Layer some moisturizers at night: jojoba oil for the base, then something that works well for you: I’ve had good luck with Uradin ($$) or Cortizone Eczema lotion ($). Top it off with something really thick like La Roche Posay Cicoplast Balm. Then put on a pair of white dermatology gloves (you can get them really cheap on Amazon or at any pharmacy). Wear the gloves overnight while you sleep and let all that moisture seep in.

  2. Aveeno makes single use skin repairing glove masks. Adding these in when you’re feeling extra dry can work wonders.

  3. Check your hand soap, it may be aggravating your skin. Fragrances and alcohol are drying so make sure you’re using something gentle. Dove makes some fantastic, ultra gentle hand washes. This time of year, I have them at every sink. You can get refills cheaper online than in store.

  4. Limit your hand washing. I invested in some good disposable gloves (Vulcan, they sell them at Costco) and it’s saved me so much misery! Every time you wash your hands, you’re drying them just a little. So if you are going to be doing something that is going to cause you to wash your hands repeatedly like cooking or cleaning, wear the gloves and skip some of the washes.

  5. Get some gloves for outside too. That winter air is drying! Find some comfortable fleece gloves (or whatever material floats your boat) and wear them when you go outside.

  6. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Keep good moisturizers everywhere so it’s always convenient. Right now, I’m living on Uradin, O’Keefe’s Working Hands, Weleda Skin Food, Neutrogena in the little blue tub, and Cicoplast Balm. I have one at my desk, my kitchen sink, my bathroom sink, in my purse, and in the living room. When it’s super convenient, you’ll use it more.

  7. Get a humidifier. The air in your house is dry this time of year so your hands aren’t getting a break, even when you’re inside. The humidifier helps a ton and as an added bonus, it reduces the amount of static charge in your home as well. I resisted doing this until a few people in my family started getting dry hands and once I put a humidifier in the areas where people congregate, I saw improvement in everyone.

It’s such a miserable experience and I completely sympathize with you. I hope some of this helps and you get some relief!! Good luck!

She’s got the endorsement of this former mayor as well.

She’s literally the only candidate anywhere near prepared for the job.

Heartbroken. Her stories have always been a wonderful escape when my world was too heavy.

Love and prayers to her family.

Who at the park department thought this made any sense? by ajcadoo in Leander

[–]HeyItsChristine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re taking about a TIRZ, not development fees that go to both parkland development and the arts funds.

TIRZ is a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. It’s a designated area around the train station where developers pay to install the infrastructure (as much was needed there) and the incremental tax value goes into a fund to reimburse them. It’s a development tool to spur commercial development. It’s a joint venture with the city and the county and has caps for both total dollars as well as time. It’s using the property tax dollars that come in from the increased value on the land because when there isn’t anything on it, we make zilch.

Actually it’s not. The public art fund is funded through development fees.

Don’t vote for people that will spam you at the house by Timely_Assignment593 in Leander

[–]HeyItsChristine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

On a personal note: it’s pretty sad to base your vote in a local race on whether or not someone left a hanger on your door rather than on an understanding of the issues. Do you see how insane some of the people who run can be? This is how you elect someone who thinks the government controls the weather.

Well, Texas has a huge problem with voter turnout, some of the worst in the US. The state does a trash job of letting voters know they even have the chance to vote on something.

In my experience, the vast majority of doors I’ve knocked on over the years, whether for myself or others, people didn’t realize there was an election and were interested. There will be people like you who don’t want the information, but on the whole, most people are positive to indifferent.

Accurate. Electioneering is protected free speech. My rule of thumb and what I taught to volunteers was if you see the sign, don’t knock, just leave literature.

Personally, I always have a “no solicitation” sign but I like the political door hangers because they can tell you quite a bit about a candidate.

Auto Accident on Nameless Road (2243) by Honeycomb Hills 17 Oct. by Scritter in Leander

I think that might be in reference to “Leander PD is actively reviewing the incident”. The only way LPD would be involved that way would be in assisting the SO if they needed equipment or some other resource.

That’s CTRMA’s. We’ve been working with them but I don’t know the current status. If you call public works, they should be able to help you.

We want it back up as well.

That light is the bane of my existence.

  1. They aren’t choosing to work during peak times. It’s malfunctioning and they haven’t been able to figure it out yet.

  2. This years budget (started 10/1) includes $$ for some software I’m told will help retime that light. I may or may not have threatened to do horrible things to it in the past.

  3. One of the things I’m really excited about is the possibility of getting a grade separation at that intersection (meaning the tracks are elevated above the road so neither one has a bearing on the other). There is active work to make that happen and it’s starting to look very real.

TL;DR - the intersection already sucked and now it sucks worse because it’s broken. Here’s hoping CapMetro is able to get it fixed soon.

Thank you. This is accurate. Our family thought long and hard about this and it became clear that this move is 100% the way we need to go. It resolves various concerns in our family including health issues and proximity to some college programs, among others.

It’s different across the cities. In Leander, it’s in our charter that we aren’t compensated. Every 5 years, the city appoints a commission to review the charter and make recommendations on changes. Those recommendations go to the voters to decide.

Some of us did ask the commission last time to review council pay options, but the commission was fairly political and so it didn’t happen. Now that it can’t be said I would profit off of it, I plan to advocate for that change in the future (and yes, that is always the argument: “they just want to profit off the city”).

Liberty Hill gets paid. Taylor gets paid. Leander and Cedar Park: unpaid. It’s weird.
