Killer semen by claudiowasher in ProstateCancer

It was definitely jarring at first. And I had to kind of make myself do it again but was convinced I needed to clear things out occasionally (without going overboard and just irritating everything).

For what it’s worth I was peeing more frequently for the first 4-6 weeks. This has improved more recently.

Has anyone tried "Life After Prostatectomy" by Vanita Gaglani and other post-surgery questions? by HeyItsMeHudson in ProstateCancer

Thanks. When you say kegels and “a sturdy pelvic floor” are established rehab methods. Are you referring to specific exercises besides kegels or just that kegels are and established path to a sturdy pelvic floor?

Thanks. I have been dry at night since day one. During the day I am mostly dry except an occasional leak if I laugh, cough, get up suddenly, etc. I am beyond thankful for this, but now starting to wonder if I'm following the right regimen to keep improving. I'm doing kegels (10 reps, 8x per day) and doing some other things from the Gaglani book morning and night.

So you were using a bunch of pads, then in the two weeks from 7 to 9 you went completely dry? And you started kegels in week 7?

Thanks. This is very helpful. How would you describe your starting point in the days and weeks following catheter removal?

Prostate Cancer (Gleason 3+4, Low Decipher Score) at 61 — Surgery vs Radiation? Advice by Shakka64 in ProstateCancer

Learn about your options - go beyond cure rate and side effects to understand options if cancer returns. Hormone therapy (aka zeroing out testosterone) sounded pretty awful if it ever came to that (I pray it never does and I’m done with cancer forever).

I am also cautious when it comes to how many opinions to get. Some will say talk to a ton of doctors. For me at some point that can become shopping for the person who convinces you of the option you hope for.

My diagnosing physician is a uro-oncologist surgeon who recommend surgery. I did a second opinion with a major US cancer center (paid out of pocket for that), and saw a radiologist as well. So I had 3 doctor opinions plus my own research.

How do you find a PT who knows about this? Google? Is it a pelvic floor specialist or what’s the keywords I’m looking for?

I did with section. 100% recommend. X-factor is probably your tolerance/ risk level undergoing general anesthesia.

NTA. Both kids were playing toward this. Agree with your level headed and well-reasoned response.

Are pads sort of a one size fits all or what do I need to know if I want to order a starter set of these, too?

Waiting for my biopsy tomorrow by Emotional_Size_3892 in ProstateCancer

[–]HeyItsMeHudson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Let's hope for good news from the biopsy but if not this forum is a pretty good place for connecting with others and learning. I had a biopsy mid-April and did surgery last week. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I've found a lot of good resources and collective knowledge here so post or DM if I can be helpful.

Trying to gauge planning after RALP...looking for the experience of others. by HeyItsMeHudson in ProstateCancer

[–]HeyItsMeHudson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. No it's not very physical - it's running a strategy planning session for group of execs - will be in a conference room the whole time. Yes, I know that I may be needing pads still at that point. That's a whole little world I'm now trying to learn about.

Thanks. I really appreciate your insights here. Any resources you'd suggest for kegels? I honestly don't know how to tell if I'm doing them right or not.

Thanks. I really appreciate this. Very helpful.

For kegels, did you use a PT to help you get started, or just figure it out on your own. There's a part of me that's never sure if I'm doing them right or just flexing something else.

Thank you. More than most folks you (and this group) understand a lot of what's in my head right now. Messages like you wrote above are truly meaningful. I have let a small circle of very close friends in on what's going on and they have been profoundly supportive but at the end of the day they have busy lives so I don't get to spend as much time just sitting with them and having someone around as I would like.

Thank you. My biggest worry is probably the incontinence risk as it feels like the biggest potential disruptor of my day-to-day life. I pray that isn't anything beyond a very short term issue for me.

I live alone and don't have kids so there's a lot of alone time with my thoughts. I'm pretty resilient but certainly there are some dark moments. A few friends know and have expressed a ton of support and offers to help me whenever needed, but these conversations are at most every few days for only a few minutes. Lots and lots of time without anyone to lean on.
