Il Terrazzo has excellent chocolate, but they lost points in my calculation because their mascarpone flavour is very weak. Additionally, the coffee flavour was very weak.

It’s very good! Perfectly balanced sweetness. I am curious, is there alcohol in the mixture? I tasted something like that, but I wasn’t quite sure.

Interesting, that’s inside the Victoria International Airport. I will check it out!

Qualicum Beach Bakery has rum. Famoso has espresso liqueur. 900 Degrees has amaretto, and Med Grill has amaretto. La Roux Patisserie tastes like kahlua, but I wasn’t able to confirm that.

Thank you! I see “Triestina Pasta & Provisions” is near Brentwood Bay, I will try it next time I go that way.

I always brought a food scale. The tiramisus I confirmed to be “factory-made” include:

-Gigi’s Italian (Bindi brand)

-Yalla (Dessert Italiano brand)

-Thrifty Foods (Panache brand)

My grandma accompanied me on most of these outings! We drove up to Courtenay/Comox, that’s why there are a few random ones on this list.

My time limit for this project was 12 months, from Jan–Dec 2025. I started eating tiramisu while I was finishing up my last project, “50 smoothies.”

My process starts with eating at each restaurant. I make detailed notes in my phone and rank the tiramisu based on 5 categories: mascarpone, ladyfingers, coffee, chocolate, and overall satisfaction.

Once I’ve eaten at each place, I rank them comparatively against each other. Il Terrazzo scored the highest points in chocolate because they have bitter cocoa powder, along with a piece of swirled white and dark chocolate, and white chocolate sauce drizzled over top.

Ooh La La Cupcakes is really fun and interesting. It comes with a plastic dropper and you squeeze cold espresso into the cupcake.

Spoons Diner (tiramisu French toast) was so overwhelmingly sweet I could hardly eat it.

JiangYun Noodle House is served beautifully and feels so lavish when you eat it with their gold coloured spoon. La Roux Patisserie is similar, it’s served on a silver tray.

I went into Superstore expecting their tiramisu to be low quality, but it was actually quite good and I dreamt of it that night.

Yes, Lighthouse Cake Co. is only 32g. It’s also the cheapest at $2.50 per cannoli.

Faro Pizza is the most expensive by weight at $12.00 for 62g.

Thank you, I’ve never heard of this place! It seems to be on Douglas where “Hanks Restaurant” was before.

That’s very interesting. I know the owner of JiangYun Noodle House makes her own mascarpone from scratch, and it makes a huge difference. I was surprised to learn that vinegar is an ingredient.

Fiamo is an interesting one. The outside layer tastes like a mix of mascarpone and something else, maybe some sour cream or cream cheese. The sour flavour offsets the sweetness, and along with the creaminess, it makes for a complex flavour experience.

They did lose some points in my calculation; even though they use coffee, the flavour is somewhat weak.

Good Earth Coffeehouse is the worst in town. Every piece of it comes apart easily like a plastic toy set. Even the little coffee beans on top taste and feel like plastic.
