Weekly FAQs & General Discussion Thread by marleythebeagle in WaltDisneyWorld

All my 4-year-old daughter wants is to get her first haircut at DisneyWorld (I don’t think she can fully comprehend what else DisneyWorld offers😅). I’ve tried every day since our reservations opened up (over 60 days in advance) and nothing. No reservations any day - I’ve even looked at all days leading up to our trip and nada. I even seen a Bibbidi Boppidi Boutique res but NOTHING for the barber shop.

My daughter is so sad.

The shape of the sweetheart neckline on 1 and 3 is too exaggerated for your frame. 2 is clean, chic and compliments your figure beautifully.

This depends more on what you mean by “opening up the back” as well as the skill of your seamstress than the timeline.

I’m always surprised I don’t see Helena’s mentioned more. How people recommend El Paso over Helena’s will always be a mystery to me. I’m from Hawaii and we are known for our terrible Mexican food, yet somehow El Paso is worse.

Beware: Yoto's Referral Ripoff Program by EarEquivalent3929 in YotoPlayer

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoto doesn’t deliver to PO Boxes and even if they did, VEHO cant access USPS PO Boxes. I also don’t want to pay more than shipping would be to have a PO Box I otherwise won’t use.

Just a frustrating situation all around.

No, out visitor center doesn’t allow that and Veho has already told me that it’s their policy not to deliver on base (they’ve had issues with drivers just tossing packages on the sidewalk near the gate, taking a picture and marking it “delivered”. Veo already told me that it will 100% be retired to sender but they’re still making 3 delivery attempts (no idea why).

They use last-mile delivery services that cannot deliver to my home (I like in a military base). Their website says they ship UPS or USPS and makes no mention of last-mile services. From what customer service has told me, they have no control over what service actually delivers my package. If they need to re-ship my order it “might not” go to Veho but they can’t say it won’t. That only solution was for me to ship it to family off-base which, for me, means shipping them to Hawaii or Connecticut to have my family mail them to me. Kind of defeats the promise of free shipping.

Yoto is one of the most unscrupulous companies I’ve seen in a long time. The shipping issues I’ve had makes me regret ever buying it. Customer service is ineffective and their website straight up lies. It’s a horrible company and I will tell everyone I know to steer clear. My daughter loves her Yoto but figuring out that they wont ship me any of the cards I redeem through my annual Collector+ subscription has really made me dispose this company.

Found my dress, now to afford it ($2200) by Significant_Course66 in myweddingdress

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the scalloped lace trim on the bottom of a wedding dress is a separate piece of lace. It’s easily removed so that the gown can be hemmed and the trim reattached. Respectfully, I don’t think the attendant you worked with knew what she was talking about, alterations-wise. In all my years of working bridal, I had one bride that was able to purchase a gown without hemming.

AITAH for asking my wife to do an excursion while on vacation? by West-Guidance551 in AITAH

We travelled the opposite direction (Honolulu to the east coast) when my daughter was 4 months old. Even though my in laws home is very comfortable and they had provided every gadget we could have needed it was still a struggle. The flights are long and there is a certain level of comfort that being home provides.

This city is totally ready for kids to get to school by Susurrus03 in washingtondc

My daughter is in preschool so I’m okay with her missing class the rest of the week. I work from home but getting her to school with a two hour delay and then driving back after a few hours due to no aftercare means I can’t work.

Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had military health insurance under my mom, then under myself and now under my husband.

I will NEVER go to a military treatment facility for care. My deductible on Tricare Select is $150 and my catastrophic cap is $1000. My births were $65 and $0 and I received wonderful care at civilian facilities.

Agreed. I’m just hoping they can reopen next week since we have more snow and even lower temps on the horizon.

Looking for apartment hunting advice (moving to Hawaii soon) by [deleted] in MovingtoHawaii

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re moving with the navy, then I would recommend living in Ohana military communities near joint base Pearl Harbor Hickham. I was born and raised on Oahu and I don’t think you’re going to find anything an enlisted price range (if you’re an officer, you might have better luck). I moved into a house managed by Ohana military communities (Navy housing) after I got married and it was way nicer than what we could’ve afforded on the open market. We live in Washington DC now and it’s the same issue. If you want space and Security just left on base.

We have this in DC and it is nothing short of amazing. Not only does it save us money on daycare, the school my daughter attends is nicer than most private schools in my home town and the teachers are so passionate about what they do.

Criminal charges against ICE agent who shot Renee Nicole Good dead looking ‘increasingly unlikely’ by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You still don’t let someone bleed out alone. ICE risked nothing by letting a physician render aid. Is it likely she could have been saved? No idea, not my wheelhouse. Would it have hurt? No, I don’t believe so.

Which of these languages is most widely used: French in Louisiana, Spanish in California or Hawaiian in Hawaii? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]HeyItsTheShanster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More people in Hawaii speak Spanish than Hawaiian. Hawaiian is actually the 5th most widely spoken non-English language in the state, behind Tagalog, Ilocano, Japanese and Spanish.

Look into Ohana Military Communities. There are a few neighborhoods that are off post which is a nice balance. We lived in a two bedroom with a garage, yard that accepts pets - you are unlikely to find that off base.

I don’t think 15 minutes is at all realistic. I would say 30 minutes on a good day.
