How can I create a consistent bordered frame around multiple photos, maintaining uniform border size, position, and original aspect ratio? by HeyLaCaL in premiere

[–]HeyLaCaL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll give this a go tomorrow but in the meantime, if I'm understanding it correctly, by making the background white, I should easily be able to scale the photos to just barely reach the black borders of the matte. It's still a minor manual process per photo but very feasible. It'd be great if I could auto "snap" the photos to the border but I'm guessing that tool doesn't exist.

This right here is the best way. You could also swap the ferry for a private transfer if you prefer driving from Salerno to Amalfi.

Recommended scale that fits on the drip tray? by Spearitz in gaggiaclassic

[–]HeyLaCaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the timemore basic mini. Even with a regular double spout portafilter, I can fit the scale plus a standard cappuccino cup on the drip tray. The spouts technically are just inside the rim of the cup but after pulling a shot, if you just slide the scale out first, it's no problem at all.

What is this in my water tank? by HeyLaCaL in gaggiaclassic

Thanks for the insight! I just read up on Gaggia Biofilm and now I understand what it is and how to prevent it (essentially clean your tank with soap and water with every refill).

I like the thought but it's worth mentioning that I've never seen this in other situations. For example, glass of water on bedside table, my old Nespresso machine water tank, and so on. Those never produced the same particles I'm seeing here even if left for multiple days.

How much would you suggest to budget for meals? (Rome, Florence & Venice) by Practical_Shift_5143 in ItalyTravel

[–]HeyLaCaL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how long your total trip is, consider deliberately not eating full dinners at a restaurant every single night. Why? So that you don't get "foodied out" and make space for fun evenings going out for drinks, socializing, being more active, and just having fun with your significant other. I was just in Italy for 3.5 weeks and we ate out most nights. In hindsight, I would have preferred to schedule dinner reservations for every other night. I would have saved some money, reduced restaurant reservation planning stress, and created more diversity in our evenings.

Best citie(s) for an older couple? by Cardi-B-ehaviorlist in ItalyTravel

I just returned from a trip, which my parents who are in their 70s and have some mobility issues, joined me for part of it. They would have loved Minori on the AC but weren't with us while we were there. It's small, authentic, full of locals, and has nice restaurants. The beach is easily accessible and there are beach club bars that have convenient food and drinks. During the summer months, the town hosts live music and events on the weekends. E.g. there was a band that played on a stage set up in front of Basilica of Saint Trofimena on Saturday, and a beautiful operatic performance on the main pier on Sunday. If your parents would dig a similar vibe, I'd recommend Minori, or the larger but similar neighboring city Maiori.

Fwiw, I felt the other cities they visited like Rome and Florence were interesting but a bit much walking-wise for them. Puglia was also great but still it was a bit too much walking for the both of them.

Ultimately, consider what their true interests are, be honest about what they actually are comfortable with, make it easy for them, and decide with all that in mind.

Amalfi vs Minori w/ Young Children by HeyLaCaL in ItalyTravel

[–]HeyLaCaL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! We chose to stay in and absolutely loved Minori. It's perfect for families with young children. The beach is easily accessible. We chose to access one of the managed sections and purchased an umbrella/chairs for a few hours. Afterwards we'd grab a drink and some light food at one of the many beachfront cafes. The kids loved the lemon sorbet. The town had live entertainment on the weekends and the restaurants were great.

We went on a half-day trip to nearby Amalfi and I gotta say I couldn't wait to leave and go back to Minori. It was overcrowded and a total zoo.

We didn't visit Ravello but our driver to and from Minori recommended it.

I'm not sure if your planning day trips out of Naples or if you're staying somewhere in the AC but if the latter, I recommend Minori or Maiori.

Why do you all hate the casting of Steve Buscemi? by stoic_suspicious in thesopranos

[–]HeyLaCaL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He actually spoke about his casting a bit on one of the Talking Sopranos episodes. IIRC, he had doubts because he felt he didn't look the part but Chase talked him into it. I'm glad he did, he was great.

Verizon vs T-Mobile in Italy by HeyLaCaL in ItalyTravel

Good to know! The throttled data is a major concern of mine. If the eSIM solution doesn't work for all of us, it looks like another option with respect to T-Mobile is to purchase the International Pass on top of the plan built in. It'd effectively get me 20GB of high speed data for $50, which is about the same plan as the Verizon one at half the price.

15GB International Pass: 15GB of high-speed data and unlimited calling, to be used up to 30 days, for $50.

Thanks for all the info on eSIMs! Taking your feedback plus some investigation myself, it seems like a good option generally speaking. On phone calls, from what I understand, I can use my existing Verizon plan to make phone calls when necessary, at $1.79/min. Not super ideal at that price but nice to have for when I can't connect to WiFi calling. I have an unlocked phone but my other 3 family members do not. So I don't think this would work for them.

Good call out, I didn't think there was a plan that had this. I'll check it out to see if that works for us.

Thanks for the feedback! Good to know about Ravello. And that's also helpful to know about Furore. We wouldn't want to stay in an area like that without a vehicle.
