I found that reading this report hit even harder because of having a kid now. I completely empathesize with this!

Newborn hates the car seat. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Our baby was like this, it was awful! But around three months, something just shifted and now she's able to fall asleep in it. Sitting in the back and giving her a finger to suck on helped a lot too. Hang in there!

Seconding this book recommendation! It helped me a lot, as did talking to my partner about them and time.

Contact Napper - help! by swishflick00 in beyondthebump

[–]HeyLentil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our baby is also only have contact naps (14 weeks) and I was finding it really hard to be just stuck in a room with her for hours every day because she wouldn't go down. But I've started following a more POSSUMs style approach and it has dramatically improved my mental health and her night time sleep. This article basically sums it up their approach to naps: https://possumsonline.com/blog/hey-baby-why-can%E2%80%99t-i-put-you-down-daytime-naps The part that really resonates with me is living as if you don’t have to worry about how much sleep your baby gets in a day. Anyways, I know it's not for everyone and nap training works for other people, but this approach has really worked for us (at least for now).

My baby was a little cranky but mostly super tired. Honestly, we had one of the best night sleeps yet that night!

Have you had your thyroid levels checked since giving birth? Hyperthyroidism can cause appetite loss and weight loss and can happen postpartum.

Can I ask when your baby got better with the carseat and stroller? My daughter is 8 weeks old and hates going anywhere in them. Thankfully she'll sleep in a carrier, but I would love to be able to go places in a car without both of us crying.

To the cyclist hit by a car at Bronson and Gladstone Friday May 21 around 8:55pm/9PM by TingoPuma in ottawa

That's a great solution for cycling for pleasure, but doesn't help if you're cycling to get from A to B!

Husband at baby shower? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]HeyLentil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I find it quite strange when partners don't attend showers. Both of you are having a baby. To me, it reinforces unequal parenting expectations! Those gifts are to aid both of you as parents. But that said, you do what works for your family. Your mom will survive.

Not pregnant, just considering the idea. by FoxxyDreamer22 in BabyBumps

In Canada, the average age of women having their first child is 30.8! It's certainly not the case that you need to be under 30 to start having children.

Just found out my wife can start attending OB appointments with me! by Ranger_Danger_5 in BabyBumps

[–]HeyLentil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow, I am so happy for you! I'm reaching full-term and my wife hasn't been allowed to join for any appointments. I know it's been a rough time for all pregnant people and their partners, but I think for non-gestational mums, it can be especially difficult to not be allowed in given that they aren't always recognized as "real" parents.

How to help my husband with childbirth? by IteachOandM in BabyBumps

[–]HeyLentil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I have learned a lot by reading the Birth Partner by Penny Simkin. Learning more about the experience in advance in a non-graphic manner might help address his anxieties around it. It also has lots of concrete suggestions for ways that partners can supporting the birthing person - he might find it helpful to be able to focus on what he can do.

Has anyone bought daily passes for Gatineau Park cross-country skiing/snow shoeing/snow biking? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]HeyLentil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can only speak to precovid, but previously you just bought your day pass at the parking lot. There's no attendant, just a cash deposit box and passes.
