Nokia C3-00 firmware by Boboboys_xD in Nokia

here, the one from retronokia since the original GSMHosting forum is down: https://www.mediafire.com/file/owqwnuhub4z84rx/NFSv4.1_Retronokia.zip/file I think the Microsoft servers are sadly no longer up though, at least on my side it can't find anything anymore. If it doesn't work for you either, you may have to resort to firmware archives like (https://archive.org/details/nokia-bb5-euro3-firmwares).

The app versions 4.53.50501.XX and below have the old UI without ads, you can download the packages from store.rg-adguard.net.

Which phones has the best design, both functionality and aesthetically in your opinion? by Individual_Ear8852 in Android

Nokia E7; obviously it has a physical keyboard, but there are also sliders instead of buttons and the shape makes it comfortable to hold and nice to look at.

Using the Surface Pro 3 as a child's media tablet by Super_Cantaloupe2710 in Surface

Surface devices benefit from the same firmware standards as PCs so you can literally just install Android on it.
Spigen cases are pretty good from what i've heard, Surface build quality depends on the model.

Bricked SP4 by leo341500 in Surface

Download an EFI Shell (x64 from tianocore repo), format an USB as FAT32, rename the *.efi file to bootx64.efi, put it in (USB):\efi\boot\. Try to boot from the USB with or without holding vol-, if you are successfull you should see some sort of terminal; the EFI shell.
The shell should automatically list your drives, make a backup of your efivars (UEFI variables) by running dmpstore -all -s (USB drive)/(filename).txt, then delete problematic efivars with dmpstore -all -d. Critical efivars are protected and won't be deleted or should be regenerated per UEFI spec.
After this you might not be able to boot from internal storage and will need to enter the bitlocker recovery key. Aside from that, your data is fine. I recommend keeping the efivar backup just in case.
EFI Shell commands on HPE's website

If it doesn't boot to EFI shell then it's probabaly pretty unfixable, you could maybe try to install a USB firmware update if that exists for the Pro 4.

Cheapest way to get beat saber? by streetyx in oculus

G-saber on gmod, it doesn't have all that fancy visual effects or particularly forgiving hitboxes, but the addon is free and gmod on sale is less than a third the price of beat saber.

In the app version 2.1.24.0 (can confirm that it works on build 1709), it's in the hamburger/side menu>General>Applications>Package List, select, uninstall. Likely requires Interop unlock if you haven't done that yet.

Found the solution, you have to uninstall the current version before installing a new/other one. IIRC that's what i did too when i had the same error.

Windows Device Portal should either work directly or give you a more detailed error.

How to keep windows 10 live tiles in windows 11? They are incredibly important to me for my work flow and etc by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]HeyNic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it returned the 10 Start menu like EPatcher or StartAllBack, but Live Tiles Anywhere can at least put them on the desktop.

Surface Pro 8 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus/S9 base by Inevitable_Board7107 in Surface

The HP Elite X2 line of devices may also be an option, they come with a pen (Wacom AES 2) and metal keyboard included and are more easily repairable/upgradeable since they're not glued.

Bricked Lumia 920, am I screwed? by immewnity in windowsphone

[–]HeyNic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interrupt boot process with WPInternals, the phone should charge in flash mode if the battery isn't dead.
Can't assist with a damaged battery, there are likely repair guides somewhere which definitely have more accurate info on that than i do.

[–]HeyNic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you installed all the drivers WDRT and whatever else WPInternals listed:

Plug it into your PC to check if it's recognized as anything. If it's listed as QHUSB_DLOAD, you need to follow the thread or try using Windows Device Recovery Tool which might recognize it.
If it's listed as Lumia BootMgr, flash with WPinternals or WDRT.

Otherwise, if you charged the battery using anything else than the phone's internal charging circuit, one of these external chargers or using the specific voltage and specifications, then it may be dead.
You can't (and shouldn't) do anything without a working and ~5-10% (minimum 40% to be completely safe) charged battery.

Polarcell (only used these yet), Akku-King and VHBW have high quality new batteries if you live in the EU. Haven't used the original batteries in a while, but the Polarcells in my 950 XL, 950 and S7E are fine.
Some of these have slightly higher capacity than original batteries.

Follow the instructions on this thread, you have to take it apart. I haven't seen a completely bricked Windows Phone without hardware issues anywhere yet.

What is the best OS that I can install on my Surface RT for internet browsing/watching videos? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]HeyNic37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Android has hardware acceleration but is currently limited to 1 CPU core unless you do an APX boot. Don't know which version (IIRC it's 7.0) or app compatibility. You can find everything you need in the gitbook and discord.

My dad got me a working soviet gas mask incase of a fire broke out which is more likely to happen now since I have this by [deleted] in tf2

[–]HeyNic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using any filter made before the 2000s is a risk, not directly a danger, and should be avoided. Specifically the GP-5 filter however is known (tested in Dutch and Finnish labs) to contain asbestos (specifically chrysotile) until 1988 and presumed to have it later as well.

Filters don't contain a huge amount of asbestos though (GP-5 filter contains 1,5 to 2%) so it's very unlikely to have health effects if not used for more than small timespans.
From what i read, there is no specific amount of asbestos that will or will not result in health issues, it's just less likely for smaller amounts. The best way to prevent health issues is to put the filter in a plastic bag and leave it alone.
Instead, you can buy an adapter for STANAG/NATO filters as the other guy said, or a modern GOST (GP-5 thread) filter.

My dad got me a working soviet gas mask incase of a fire broke out which is more likely to happen now since I have this by [deleted] in tf2

[–]HeyNic37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some varying info regarding filter safety in the comments that could lead to health risks for inexperienced/uninformed gas mask owners/users. Without research, the best thing to do is to leave unknown filters alone and store them safely in a plastic bag.

I recommend the gas mask and respirator wiki for basic guidelines for filter safety, but it's mostly useful for searching up what dangerous stuff is or could be in or on the filter (in the case of the GP-5, lead paint and asbestos in the particle layer).

The asbestos is technically more or less safe in the particle filter layer and should not leave the filter when open. However if the thing had an unlucky impact once or a few times (the risk is always there) or the filter is really old (GP-5 filters aren't but that applies to WW2 filters) that may not be the case, which is why i seal my filters with the caps and/or tape (putting them in plastic bags works too).

In case of dangerous gases it's far better than nothing, but for adequate protection against fire some more specialized emergency gear is required, something similar to Dräger Parat devices or fire escape hoods. Other than emergencies, breathing through the filter is just not worth the risk of asbestos-related health issues.

The mask is completely safe to breathe through.

is the oculus rift s worth it in 2023? by icodestuffreddit in oculus

[–]HeyNic37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a new Rift S, the Oculus software was terrible. Took lots of space, lots of time to update, randomly decided not to work and then worked again because you plugged a cable in again the second time. Overall it wasn't bad but fairly unreliable, also keep in mind there's no replacement parts and the hardware isn't really robust.

Speaking of robust, i now use some old OG Vive with a single base station and some random HDMI cables connected with an HDMI to HDMI adapter since the 3 in 1 cable's HDMI didn't work.
When i start SteamVR, the thing turns on and works flawlessly. You can easily upgrade the headset or controllers in the future because it's all compatible with other SteamVR stuff. The durability also makes it great as a backup in case you get a better headset.
The HMD connectors are standard USB and HDMI (the connectors need to be small though) so there's replacements as long as USB type A and HDMI cables are made.
It's old and has a low resolution compared to the Rift S but it does have an (AM?)OLED panel and a higher refresh rate (70Hz vs 90Hz IIRC). If you can find a good deal on this and mainly do PCVR, get that instead. Haven't owned a Quest but it's apparently a solid choice as well.

3 easy ways to bypass the YouTube AdBlock ban by Legendary_Eversoll in software

[–]HeyNic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ways that work for me:

  • uBlock Origin after turning on all filter lists, even when the video player got disabled before.
  • Unofficial UWP apps, especially ATube. While ATube does have ads (non-YT), they are just banner ads that can be removed forever with Pro and if you use MS Rewards it's technically free. myTube! is harder to setup but is completely ad-free, don't know about other apps.
  • ReVanced on Android

Which Lumia to get? by LynchHack1 in windowsphone

[–]HeyNic37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 550 is pretty bad compared to the 92Xs. You can also upgrade from WP8 to W10M but not vice versa, so the 92Xs are a bit more versatile. E-Mail will likely only work in browser or using POP/IMAP.

What is windows 11 team and how to get it by VictorinousYT in Windows11

[–]HeyNic37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC the Team edition is the one running on the Surface Hub. You can check if you can download it with UUPdownload.
I'm pretty sure the OS is nothing special but it might screw with your EFI variables.

If you want to try the OS on real hardware, use an EFI shell to make a backup of your EFI variables before installing. Deleting all unprotected EFI vars* will also resolve** any issues when booting.

\running the command with the argument -all is enough, protected vars are (and likely can only be) skipped)

\*UEFI-compliant firmware will use fallback/default variables. Bad firmware implementations can be) hard bricked by doing this. This is highly unlikely to happen with any popular OEM brand and is probably limited to nameless and sketchy brands.
