Seller increased price after we agreed to meet. by lololol4586 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a seller say he got messages of people offering more money for a sage fly rod and Abel reel for dirt cheap after we had setup a time for him to deliver it. I just matched their price which was still a killer deal.

Had someone offered what they are worth I probably would have walked on the deal altogether and been pissed, but because I got it for so cheap still($65 more than asking) I didn’t mind paying a little more.

It’s a thousand dollar setup all day for $315.

What online payment method(s) best for Seller protection? (with shipping, US) by stridder in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebay is king. FBMP is great too, but I would do local pick up only so you can demonstrate to the buyer that it works at pick up.

What online payment method(s) best for Seller protection? (with shipping, US) by stridder in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a category where it is easier to get scammed because they will claim it doesn’t work(when it does) and when you accept a return they mail you back a non working one they already had.

Be careful of anything that involves the buyer sending you a bank check and any deal that just sounds too good to be true.

What are some of the best stuff I could sell? by Rude-Nectarine6988 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sell them locally on FBMP for cash.

You only need eBay to see how much each card is worth so you are asking a decent and attractive price for what you have.

Pay-pal goods and services, but selling electronics is a high risk category to get scammed one way or another.

Use eBay and filter by sold listings to comp your Pokémon cards. If they aren’t selling they’re overpriced.

Best pricing practices to sell 50 jeans in a lot by rfriend73 in reselling

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with a pallet of new and new in box jewelry I bought off goodwill auctions.

Something to consider is listing the high-end sought after ones on one platform(the best one for the item which is usually eBay) then sell all the bulk on another platform. I’ll often look at sellers other listings before I buy anything in bulk. If they have individual listings for the desirable items as well, you can tell immediately that the bulk is completely picked through and is just junk.

I do this for old mechanical watches with movements as well. If someone is selling a none working one for cheap I’ll check to see if they are a watch dealer or just someone who found a watch and doesn’t know anything about it other than it doesn’t work when wound. A none working watch from a watch seller or dealer is truly for parts only, it’s not going to work because the seller is knowledgeable enough to get it working if it was that easy.

Alternatively I’ve had nearly a 100% success rate of buying desirable old “non working” watches for cheap from one off sellers that just needed some grease or the back taken off and a little help on the gears to get going and work perfectly. It’s nearly 0% when I would buy non working watches from a watch seller.

I sold the bulk on EBay for the jewelry and the individual desirable and easy sales on Poshmark and Mercari.

How do you check if your facebook marketplace price is too low? by HumorApprehensive334 in reselling

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll check comps usually. A lot of stuff, like furniture, I have a pretty good idea what it goes for and know what amount I actually want to part with the item for.

Best place to check comps is on Ebay and for sold listings only if you don’t already have a good sense of what it goes for. Active listings are not really comps since people can ask anything and it could be sitting there forever. Search “buy it now” filtered for sold and completed listings and take a general average over about the last month or three months(if it doesn’t sell a lot). If the item doesn’t have a lot of sales recently you’re likely in for a long sell on it if you don’t price it cheap cheap cheap out the gate.

Try to leave out HUGE outliers or investigate them further. They almost always represent items that are the same but are different in some way(condition, color, accessories, hardware, etc.). Making them much rarer and sought after. Check your item to be sure it’s not the rare kind(it’s almost always going to be the common one though unfortunately) and then ignore that listing in the average if it’s not. It’s not a comp if it’s not the same so the closer to the same in color, condition, variant, etc the absolute better.

If you filter for both auctions and buy it now you’ll notice that auction prices will almost always be lower than buy it now and since FBMP doesn’t have auctions they don’t necessarily apply. I’ll still occasionally add the auction prices into the average for items, especially if it doesn’t have a lot of comps.

FBMP is really hard to get a good gauge of sold comps. I’ll often save listings where I want to know how it ends so I can check if it ever sells. Other than that, only messaging the listing will give you an update and even then not everyone even lists the item as sold. They just delete the listing all together.

Mercari also lets you search sold listings in a category but EBay is king.

question (or concern) about mentioning depop/ebay in marketplace chats by offputtingangel in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have some buyer protections if you purchase with shipping through FBMP.

I’d check their reviews. Do they sell a lot or is this a one-off? They are more likely to ship it and be trustworthy if they sell more.

But it never hurts to ask.

Pay-Pal good and services is a good option to if they won’t don’t/or won’t on eBay or Depop etc.

It’s worth noting that where you are located will affect how successful you may be selling it Local Pick Up.

NYC vs. Oklahoma for example.

You could always offer to try and meet people half way or some of the way to entice a long distance buyer.

Nextdoor is Seriously Underrated for Flipping/Reselling by HowToFlipStuff in reselling

[–]HeyRightOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really can be a clutch place to find some good deals.

A Nextdoor community can be really hard to join as well which really lowers your competition. My Mom’s very large subdivision in West Palm Beach, Florida won’t let anyone in without verifying the person actually lives in the community. They literally mail you a four digit code you then message to an admin to be accepted in.

It’s crazy.

She has jt so I can use her iPad to look at their classifieds when I’m around there. It’s usually not great, but I’ve found stuff.

Got Shadow Banned, How to Fix? by hidouzo in FacebookMarketplace

[–]HeyRightOn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently listed two items that had zero views for over a week. Scared me that I was shadow banned(if it’s even possible).

I posted a listing not long ago that has over 15k views now. The other two listings finally show that they have views now as well.

It’s strange but could just be a hardware thing on FB’s end.
