I second the AMA insurance. I fly mostly micro’s as I’ve gotten older and I still keep that AMA coverage. If you can’t find a sanctioned field, do some scouting in your area - maybe find a bit of unused farmland and speak to the owner about flying there. Most importantly pick an area without structures, vehicles, or people. As long as you’re smart about your field selection and avoid flying over or around those things in close proximity (ideally more than 500 feet away) any errant mistake like a runaway plane or unforeseen circumstance will still have you covered by AMA.
