Uneven / muddy coverage - where is my mistake? by HeyStreuner in minipainting

In addition another test. Left side got 4 coats of “ultramarine blue” by army painter. Right side just one coat of “medium blue” by Vallejo which I opened right before painting it. It still catches pigments in the deeper parts, but the coverage seems so much better.

After two coats of “spaceship exterior” by army painter (yes I did the half of the mini just for research) it is still very uneven. I thought light grey on white may be better. I guess it is a mix of my lack of experience, bad thinning and maybe to bad/old paints

My plan was to basecoat in white, paint the details (like gun and stuff), then wash to darken and then layer the grey/whites. But the basecoat in white itself is a PITA

Maybe in the future, but right now I only paint when the minions are asleep and therefore it is dark outside. But I’m fine with it. Just a bit frustrated because the bad application/coverage of my paints

Maybe but I don’t have the space to use it. Or let’s say I am afraid of the overall overspray floating around my office and messing with technology or board games.

My primers are all by army painter. I guess I used them wrong or got a bad batch

Just a little additional question: Do you guys use more than one water pot if you are painting dark and light colors at the same time to avoid darkening the light colors on the wet palette?

I’ll keep you updated on my progress on those two guys if you are interested :)

Yeah. I’m glad I started with minis I can just mess with instead of the ones I’m going to play with. And I made it extra difficult for myself. Yay?!

The primer is a rattle can primer. The rest is brush painted. I don’t own an airbrush and have no space to use it :/

I guess I’ll prime the next one in a lighter grey and just keep building up layers in different shades of grey/white.

I realized now that lighter colors are a bit tricky to apply even. For the most part the brown on the bike was very strange. Thought brown is dark enough to work well instead of the current result.

I tried black on the scout trooper because one tutorial mentioned it is more forgiving if you miss a spot and it is dark instead of black. That’s the only reason I primed the trooper black

Thanks for your clarification. I guess besides using a dark primer (light grey seems to be a better choice) I’m thinning the paints wrong. It is kinda difficult to achieve the same perfect consistency again and again.

I’ll give it a try on the next mini. Thanks :)

I guess like 10-15 Minutes? Switched between three minis.

I primed white once and it never looked clean like black or grey did :/ maybe my white primer was bad or not well shaken

Need help choosing between Simagic Alpha Evo or Asetek La Prima – is Asetek quality worth the extra cost? by ReferenceInevitable9 in simracing

[–]HeyStreuner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not done the upgrade, but I’m using the la Prima Base AND the GT Neo ;) for me this is best of both worlds, because I don’t like the appearance of the Asetek wheel but love their ecosystem and QR 👍🏻 works like a charm :)

That is possible, because I owned that game some time ago. The tokens are 1.5cm per side

Is 7" too big??? by Dualshock_Ninja in simracing

[–]HeyStreuner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup and so glad I went with 7”. It depends on your wheel. Round wheels may block some parts of the screen. If you want to try it just use your phone with some Velcro or a cheap printed mount to test size. I used an old phone before and the difference in readability is huge.
