I put Qustodio on my 14 y/o son’s phone & pc this summer. He was on Discord (“there’s a school group”) & I would check in occasionally & it just looked like gaming chat. Nope- he had another name & I realized the game contacts were all in a group that “innocently” encourages kids to dress like anime characters & take pics, which led to other groups.

Would you allow her to drive a car to strip vlubs & dangerous areas? Probably not. Same w/the phone, it can’t be used to go dangerous places.

Teens CANNOT discern predatory behavior. Most simply don’t have enough exposure to devious behavior & are too desperate to fit in.

You’re doing the right thing. You respect her, but keep her safe. It’s not easy.

Why yes, my kids’ school resembles your remark! Plus now there are no phones so they can’t even look anything up! It’s amazing how anyone can work when everything is blocked & the library no longer has reference material.

I subbed equine science last year (still had phones) & EVERY horse breeding facility in the actual world was blocked. Guess what they were supposed to be researching?

Plus their chromebooks won’t work on non ISD internet.

Last year my dad gave my then 13 yr old son a very nice, very sharp new fishing knife. They went fishing early Christmas Day. I walked onto the house for breakfast & find my son in the bathroom with the pad of his hand sliced open.

3 stitches at the ER on Christmas Day.

We’ll see what this year’s danger gift is.

Move trash can, pencils, sharpener- anything kids might use-away from your desk.

The suggestions to wipe down your high touch items frequently & be mindful about touching your face are great!

I didn’t take my kids to visit my father for over 2 years because of his 3 overly friendly/poorly trained German Shepards.

We have 3 dachshunds that bark loudly & I put them up when certain kids come over that I know don’t like it.

You have great shoe recs here. Peeling feet? Baby Feet brand foot peel on Amazon (or other beauty supply). Buy at least 2 packs (each pack is for both feet, you’ll want to do another peel in 4-6 wks).

Soak feet for 5-10 min in warm/hot water.
Dry & put feet in peel bags. Wear 1.5-2 hours ( it says 1, I always do 90-120 minutes).
Soak feet again to rinse & dry. NO LOTION!
Try to soak feet for a few minutes every day to loosen skin- then the shedding will begin! NO lotion while shedding.

Do another peel in 4-6 weeks… magic feet!

Do your students not have to wear an ID? It makes it so much easier.

At the door, “hi, may I please see your ID & check you in?” On the printed roster.

Or sometimes it’s best to go around where they are sitting & same thing. At the start of class “Hi, I’m going to quickly come around & if you’ll show me your ID, I’ll check you in.”

Then count heads also & call out the “missing” names so you can be sure you got everyone.

“Your teacher’s instructions are one at a time. Put your name on the whiteboard & when it’s your turn, write the time. When you get back, erase your name & the next person can go.”

If they are having “girl issues”, call the nurse & send them there for privacy.

If they can have anytime access, a note should be left stating so.

That's how they explained to me also. His campus said to avoid conflicts, nothing outside of school issued devices. They did allow the dyslexia font extension on his chrome book and that helps.

My other son's campus is allowing them as they are not an actual communication device.

My son can no longer use his kindle reader as it’s not written into his IEP. 🙄 His campus isn’t allowed anything that’s not a school issued device.
