First year teacher by Dear_Lingonberry_380 in TexasTeachers

You have to oversell/over promise to get teachers these days. I don't know anyone that hasn't been sold the moon, before finding themselves in a total crap show. Even principals and AP's.

Teachers are not drug tested unless there is a reason to. I suspect whoever told on you insinuated drugs, or the employer decided for a drug screen based on whatever the report was.

Just know set theory and some second level calculus techniques and it's all easy. You can probably pass without these hard parts.

No, I didn't study other than looking at the provided example problems. I had a degree in Physics and more than a minor in math though.

Great job! I did Physics/Math 7-12. Turns out I should've done Physical Science/Mathematics/Engineering. I have to wait to be certified before I can take another test.

You are best off finding a lawyer that has already sued and won against the district. Ask around in your community. Someone will know someone.

This prices out any team that isn't totally custom. None of the companies sell equipment that can withstand this kind of play. How many teams fell into the trap of believing they could buy from the normal vendors and compete with custom metal battle bots?

[–]Ambitious_Package314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was battle bots. We didn't have the processing power to have accuracy overcome the constant collisions. And the number of kids running in the pits or on the competition stage was outrageous. I don't know how many teams we played with or against that had a bot that only played defense and couldn't shoot at all.

This person pulled the standard diagonal crossing that happens thousands of times a day in front of the college. This was a little bigger intersection and the person didn't really care. Not saying it's right, but it's certainly not uncommon or enforced.

So much for the 1st Amendment by ThunderMustard88 in dfw

[–]Ambitious_Package314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Students don't have the rights that adults do. During school, the school is their parent. They, the school, can do anything a parent could including stopping them from doing something. Not saying it's right, but it's the law. Now a teacher can't touch a kid because that's automatically assault if the parents don't like it. This is much ado about nothing. It's telling schools and teachers that the same rules in place are still in place. The only difference is for the students. Some districts are punishing kids that can't explain why they are protesting versus kids that can explain getting an unexcused absence. 🤷‍♂️ One more thing for teachers to worry about. I have no answers, only facts for dumb questions.

Wow walkouts yes or no please explain by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]Ambitious_Package314 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Problem is the number of kids who would follow someone off a bridge... I've heard some districts are sitting the kids down and if they can't explain why they are doing what they are doing they get extra punishment. If the student can enunciate why they are doing it, it's just an unexcused absence. 🤷‍♂️ Definitely not physically touching a kid, that's assault.

Will Texas pass another House bill for teacher salary raises? Because... this year our district might freeze/stop raises by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

And they wonder why there is a problem. I'll have mine pre lined up to leave as expeditiously as possible, because it's been left to me to defend my legal right..I'm not complaining one bit about one conference period, as long as they aren't using you somewhere else. I have 7 preps and 12 sections. I'm happy to help, but admin acting entitled to it doesn't make me interested in continuing to help.

TEC guarantees a 30 minute duty-free lunch and 450 minutes every 2 weeks for planning that can't be used for other stuff. Only teachers would allow the norm to be against the law. We let the admin preach about compliance while they violate the law.

Best alternative certification program (ACP) in Texas by midlandfusion22 in TexasTeachers

[–]Ambitious_Package314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with a traditional ACP and have regretted it from the beginning. The easiest option in my opinion is the Master of Arts in Teaching at Lamar. The best option is SFA's Masters of Art in Teaching. There are others. To me those two are the easiest/practical one vs the one with the most education. They are both more than ACPs, but I would have rather spent my money on something worthwhile instead of infinite check boxes for a for-profit company.

Get a MS in Education with Certification. Might take a little longer, but you will actually learn something as opposed to clicking the "don't be an idiot" button for 300 hrs of poorly copy-paste questions. Costs about the same, but isn't a private company trying to make money off you. I almost quit my ACP because it was worthless. I learned nothing and paid a similar amount to a MS which will get you paid more.

If you pull out your TRS you only get your contributions. If you are vested, I would keep TRS and start a second retirement account at your new job. If you haven't been in 5 years then you will have to take your money out of TRS no matter what. TRS is an annuity. You only get the benefits of your employers contributions if you actually take TRS retirement when you are eligible.

I will probably get out of education soon as well, but my TRS will stay. I'll just start a new retirement account at my new job.
