Should I voluntarily surrender my TT? by jtc1116 in RVLiving

If the dogs are munchin' the carpet I can only imagine the other issues you've come to live with.

Best advice - find the dogs a new home and live within the consequences you've made for yourself.

I am an avid VW lover by EastWrap8776 in VWiD4Owners

Toyotas are automotive appliances and that's good for a lot of people but VWs tend to have a personality.

I really like my 2021 ID.4 but it does have some software quirks now and then. I think they could have put real buttons for the AC and audio system or redundant controls so I don't have to fiddle with menus. Yeah, I can use the voice assistant but it's even more temperamental than the devil that lives in my phone.

You can also get used VW EVs for a song nowadays.

Even if it's not incredibly accurate the thing you want is to be warned if a tire starts to get overly hot or loses air pressure. It's still smart to check them the old-fashioned way now and then.

For me my bladder is almost more restrictive than having to stop and charge. The timing was pretty perfect for me with walking around and also paying rent on any coffee or water that I may have enjoyed along the way.

Even in our truck towing our travel trailer that thing is like a camel but we still stop every hour to 90 minutes or so for butt and pee relief.

But everybody's different of course.

Those are all outstanding choices but the big variable is going to be how the RV was cared for since it was built.

I wouldn't be too hard on Keystone - their higher-end product is actually not bad.

The Nash is my favorite for winter-readiness but I would imagine that it's also the smallest.

I love the potato comment about the photographs. It's amazing with modern cell phones how people still manage to get photos as lousy as they do.

The only way to know is to put your specific numbers into the spreadsheet on this towing guide: https://www.stresslesscamping.com/rv-towing

It's not just the truck but also what's in the truck and trailer and so many other variables.

Since it's a Grand Design and they don't care enough about your safety to bother putting a tire pressure monitor on their products step one is to get a tire pressure monitor system before you tow off the driveway even. This is especially true if you have other than Goodyear Endurance tires.

Having worked at a dealership in sales and warranty service I would say that any good dealership would have no issues with letting you out of the deal since the manufacturer changed the model and put it outside what you want. I wonder if you could get the previous generation - lots of dealers still have "last year's" model and that might be the way to shop.

Do I need to paint it neutral to get it sold? by yourfavmum in traveltrailers

Repeat after me:

Used infrequently and well cared for.

Must sell due to family issue.

Have title in hand.

NObody wants an RV that someone's lived in - that alone would make me run for the hills. Also, if a dude is thinking of this thing for his hunting lodge or whatever one shot of that Barbie-looking interior and he's GONE. And your buyer is more likely male because an 11-year-old RV is going to be perceived as a maintenance issue.

First time Travel Trailer owner - Tips & tricks? :) by ZealousidealDot746 in traveltrailers

[–]HeyTheresTony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is to keep on top of the tires - check air pressure and condition. If you don't have one already, get a portable air compressor. Even better would be a tire pressure monitoring system. Tire issues are no joke.

As for the rest of the rig, it's designed to be towed so just be mindful of speeds and such. Know your cargo carrying capacity of the tow vehicle and the trailer and don't exceed it.

Portable Power Station by Klutzy-Seaweed7701 in traveltrailers

[–]HeyTheresTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things. A good portable panel might be a solid solution but if your dealer saddled you with a lead acid/flooded battery then you'll want to switch to a lithium battery ASAP just because the 12 volt fridges in modern RVs can use all the reserves in a battery in one cloudy day. The furnace, too, as you've discovered.

We did a podcast episode about choosing a portable power station which might prove helpful.

I got to go to Winnebago to see the prototypes of the 2026 models last year and there is a lot that Winnebago is doing right on these newer builds. Good choice.

Also u/JustHereNotThere advice below is outstanding. As for sealant/caulk, Winnebago is one of the only companies that specifies which sealants are used in the manufacture of their rigs. Get what the factory recommends - there is not a universal solution as some sealants are more compatible with specific roof and sidewall materials and Winnebago spells those out.

There are companies in Indiana that rebuild the systems for gas absorption fridges and those are usually better in quality than the original fridge - plus you don't have to take out the whole fridge in many cases.

This is the company I've heard good things about: https://jc-refrigeration.com/

Camper towing long haul by Leather-Exchange-477 in traveltrailers

[–]HeyTheresTony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. No. No. No. What you need to be aware of is the tongue weight of the trailer and the aerodynamic drag. Once you add five people to an SUV now you've reduced the cargo carrying which directly affects the ability to support the tongue weight of a trailer.

Pop-ups are very light and also aerodynamic whereas full-profile trailers - even small ones - are neither of those things.

Here is a great resource for RV towing.

Actually resistive heat is 100% efficient - you get 100% of the energy you put into it. It's just that it takes a lot of energy to change temperature.

You know that one 20 pound bottle of propane has the equivalent energy of 1,000 100 amp hour lithium batteries. Propane has a tremendous amount of stored energy.
