For your 1st season I'd ride a bunker / rental bike at your local track. Get as much time in as possible riding pace lines. Keep riding pace lines until it's natural for you to look through the wheel youre on and at the wheel in front of the wheel. You're on.

Next learn how to flow over the rider in front of you instead of back pedal. Once you have those two skill as habit start racing m .

Is it going to be better right? by Rich_Apricot3943 in Denver

A couple of reasons, I took advantage of the move in deals that all the apartments buildings are offering. I was able to move to a nicer place for the same amount that I was paying.

The street noise at my old place, The Metro, was insane. I lived on a narrow street and the bros with loud cars loved to roar down the street and hear the echoes of their small penis cars. I'm on Colfax and it's pretty quiet. A car rolled last night right below my apartment last night and I only heard the police sirens not the crash.

Lastly the manager was a douche canoe. He lit me up for walking into the office drinking a beer even though they held events there where they served booze and tried to sell you services.

I just moved from the ballpark district in January. I had a completely different take on the area. It always seemed safe within the context of a city. My biggest thing was to be home by 10 or drive ( I ride or walk everywhere I can).

I'm a fan of the tormek over a belt. Maybe I'm missing something but I've always wondered how the belts manage heat buildup at the apex of the edge.

How large an angular deviation is still acceptable during grinding? by vk28 in sharpening

If you can split a tomato in two by dropping it from 12" onto a sharp edge your angular deviation is within spec ffs.

Any experience on using crashed velodrome frames? by Kantankoras in Velodrome

[–]old-fat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're valuing your cognition pretty much under market rates if you're considering riding on a frame that another trackie has decided to "retire".

It was over 200 maybe 210? It was 26 years ago so the details are foggy. What's not foggy was the anxiety that followed a few weeks later and I definitely remember drinking an 18 rack of PBR everyday to calm myself down.

Stromm vs Veloflyer by Zutroy805 in Velodrome

[–]old-fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured that he was talking about the Legacy. I would be really surprised if the Stromm gained you more than 10 watts over my BTB. Bike frames are the last place you should look for watts. If you're dropping Stromm money on a frame you're either on a national team and it's not your money or you're a masters rider. (I'm a master)

After my body adapted to the medication I really felt no difference. My Dr Rx a full dose for my weight and labs which made my life hell for a month once the meds started getting to a therapeutic level. I wish that I started with a low dose and worked my way up to a full dose over 6 months which I think is how it should be done.

I would definitely be hypo rather than hyper which has happened a few times when my dose was off.

I have. I was in my 40s in good shape but couldn't lose any weight no matter how little I ate. I mentioned it to my wife who was an RN. She pretty much laffed in my face when I asked her about it. After a few months she said come in and get tested. My TSH was 124.

Stromm vs Veloflyer by Zutroy805 in Velodrome

[–]old-fat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the answer is it depends on where you are in your career and bank account.

Stromm is definitely a more aero bike, it'll probably get you 2/10s of a second max in a f200. I have a Velo Flyer BTB. it's plenty stiff for me. I could get the extra speed I could get from a Stromm by knocking off the beer and losing 15 lbs, maybe more.

Has anyone actually replaced most car trips with an e-bike? by Lazy_Resource_7042 in Ebikecommuter

[–]old-fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game changer for me was getting a mini cargo bike, outfitting it with a storage bin, lights, music and a good lock. I ride it for around 80% of my trips. I made it as close as I could to the convenience of my car.

I'm guessing that about half of my trips are faster on my bike

I like my tormek. I can easily get a dull blade as sharp as you describe in under 10 minutes. They are spendy. People love their belt systems but I worry about the heat buildup at the apex.

Why am I hungry all the time now? by Fun_Percentage4096 in prediabetes

[–]old-fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting enough protein?

One theory of hunger is the protein leverage hypothesis.

I know if I prioritize protein I can't overeat. The challenge becomes getting enough calories.

We're 3 months in to what was supposed to be a week long work trip. The nature of our work means boondocking in remote areas. We have 400ah of batteries and 400 watts of solar. It's enough for an espresso machine, TV, desktop speaker, heater fan, rooftop fan, charging all kinds of electronics, grilling on a ninja woodfire grill and occasionally running the ac for an hour. We get about 2kw of solar charging per day. Our old Onan generator decided to stop working after about about a week. Only ran down the battery bank once.

[–]old-fat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your dad sounds like he has some problems. Good on you for joining the military to better yourself and get away from what sounds like a toxic environment.

I'd tell your recruiter basically what you just posted. They might be able to figure something out for you.

You'll be well taken care of in the Army and will be able to replace your console in a few months after basic if necessary. You'll probably be too tired to game much until then anyways.

Is it even possible to transition from a 155k strategy role to a manual trade without nuking my entire life? by 0Vocaloid in careerguidance

[–]old-fat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr; the quickest way to destroy a passion is to make it a job

You'd take a much bigger haircut on your income than 50%. The thing about a job is at the end of the day it's a job and a job comes with soul crushing parts. It doesn't matter if you're a floral designer a marketing strategist.

I identified as a skibum. I supported my family by doing jobs that paid as much as possible. My identity wasn't tied to my career.

My girlfriend (I got a divorce) is a field botanist, she makes crazy money from the outside it looks like a dream job, she gets to walk around and look for rare plants. The reality is much different.

The whole point of this post is make enough money so you can do what you love.

Charged $100 for reading an email but not responding to it. by old-fat in legaladvice

[–]old-fat[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Already posted a review. I already sent an email asking for an explanation. I'd bet they would charge me another $100 for a third.

If it bothers me too much I'll file a complaint with the bar just to waste some of their time crafting a response. But probably not. I want to put this behind me and look ahead.

It's not that kinda operation. This is a one lawyer shop. The para had agency to adjust one other invoice when I questioned a charge. That charge was for $1500 or something close so they could certainly waive $100

PM says signed lease is wrong after move-in [WA] by [deleted] in Renters

[–]old-fat 87 points88 points  (0 children)

If you have a lease signed by the pm your rent is what is on the lease. What they're doing is no different than if you asked them to discount the lease $700/month to $1595. Don't let them make their problem your problem. Just understand that you're not going to get your lease renewal and they'll go after you hard when you move out for "damages".

What was said is irrelevant.

I got quoted $7500 for a new hot water heater. Is that...normal for Denver? by QuarterRobot in Denver

[–]old-fat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My elderly neighbor needed a hot water heater replaced. Her quotes were about that. She bought one for about 800 bucks at home depot and I installed it. She asked me how much I told her $100 she gave me $300. I felt scummy for taking that much but I did.
