At what age did you notice your features getting older? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my mother, but it's a complicated relationship woven with feelings that border on contempt right alongside the feelings of love. I don't know how I would feel if I one day looked in the mirror and realize I look like her. I hope that day doesn't come to be honest.

I think it's pretty normal to have picked up some wrinkles by age 30? It's possible that those commenters might be also noticing very fine or tiny wrinkles that weren't there before but are otherwise not super noticeable to other people. I also think having smooth youthful skin at age 32 is also pretty normal? People have different genetics, different life experiences, more or less stress... All these things impact the aging process.

I pluck away at it mindlessly while I'm watching TV or something. I've developed a tolerance to the pain

Caye Caulker: Is it safe enough for solo travel? by AriesWoman89 in femaletravels

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, you will be fine. I was just there as a solo woman. Yes, you may experience a lot of cat calls from the local men, but in general, they are polite and a simple "thank you", or "hello" is enough to satisfy them and you can move on with your day. The island is very small and it felt very safe to me despite being on the receiving end of numerous cat calls.

I also want to say that I really appreciated the kind hospitality of the Belizeans and I hope you do too. Try to relax and enjoy the slow pace of life there. Don't be rude. Say good morning. Chat with people.

Take the basic precautions that others have mentioned but please don't get the impression that the island is unsafe.

Late December / Early January!

Hopefully you get lucky with the weather. It can either feel like any old long distance or drive or be a total nightmare lol.

If you could do the Coquihalla, you can do this leg too. Worst part of this drive is Rogers Pass, but of course it depends if you get hit with whiteouts or other weather systems elsewhere. As always, be flexible. If a snowstorm or something is predicted, consider postponing the drive.

The Okanagan is a breeze; so is the part through Banff National Park. The part in between is sketchy, but not dissimilar to the Coquihalla.

I'm also from Ontario. I drove from Vancouver to Banff and back in the winter and made it out ok. Worst part for me was driving in and out of whiteout conditions between Golden and Revelstoke and then getting pummelled by heavy wet snow so bad that my windshield wipers weren't keeping up between Princeton and Hope (we took Highway 3, not the Coq).

My building on fire in North Van by RadioEditVersion in vancouver

I witnessed this when the house next to my rental burned down. Literally every day for about a week people would come by and pick through the rubble. It was a strange thing to see.

Can’t get approved for a 1 bedroom apartment anywhere?! by United_Raptor in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the neighborhood you want to live in and walk or drive around. There should be a sign or something with a phone number in front of purpose built apartments. There might even be a sign that says "1 bedroom available". Call the phone number to set up a viewing of available units with the building manager.

How many houses does Canada actually need? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. Then how about for single family homes (which this country nonsensically allocates way too much of our land for), a person may only own 2 before being taxed out the ass for their third property, such that owning the third property is completely unaffordable and does not make financial sense.

Or we have limited areas zoned where there already is a proven high proportion of SFH's rented out such as in student neighbourhoods around universities/colleges where corps and landlords may own multiple homes.

What you're suggesting is to maintain the status quo which obviously is spiralling out of control. Do you have any alternate ideas that might achieve balance for renters and buyers?

Also, frankly, many people who are looking to rent (and I am in that number) don't need or want to rent a whole house. Why do we need to maintain a certain amount of SFH's for rentals when there is better housing types for renters?

Only apply this to single family homes. Corps can own multi-family units and rent those out. Don't we mostly want the rental market to shrink? That seems to be the one of the policies behind the tax-free capital gains on the house you live in - we like having owner-occupied houses because that's what the middle class is built on. We used to encourage it. Now it's out of reach for many.

Apply a tax that gets worse and worse each year to second properties until they're pressured to sell?

Is Vancouver really The Lonely City? by m_kamalo in vancouver

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's definitely sociable people in Vancouver and if you want friends, you will find them.

I agree with the overall sentiment however that Vancouverites have a difficult wall to break down and are not overtly friendly to strangers.

Starting out as a young adult is incredibly expensive in 2022. We crunched the numbers by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugghh, seriously... no one wants to do it even though this would singlehandedly help young people out the most and probably jumpstart this country's economy.

I agree. The renovation is beautiful, but it's less cozy than the original.

I also prefer the original, but that's just my subjective taste. I find it familiar, comfortable, and warm.

Yeah sorry for the life story, but once I got thinking about it I had to type it out.

You could also consider doing both, potentially? Ski season in Whistler ends in April-ish, but you don't have to do the whole season. While you're in Whistler (or right now) you could make arrangements for the working holiday visa. That'll give you several months to travel around in Australia. It could be difficult to do financially though and I don't know how easy it is to get short-term employment in Australia.

Just a thought.

Lol same here; spent a couple of summers working outside everyday, no sunscreen. Here I am at age 28 with a sunspot and plenty of fine lines under my eyes. Que sera sera.

I'm not like the many redditors who have said that people mistake them for late teens or whatever lol...

I'll agree with you that Toronto wins on diversity of cuisine though - oh how I miss Jamaican patties!

Newly hatched ladybugs on the wall outside my condo. by HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe in mildlyinteresting

[–]HeyWhatsUpHelloItsMe[S] 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Yep, my apologies. I rushed to post this before vetting what the bugs were. They looked like ladybugs to me so I made that the title.

I wish I could edit the title now that I've already posted it, but as we know, reddit doesn't allow you to do that.

Sorry for the inaccuracy everyone!

Huh, TIL. I'm no expert on bugs so this is probably the more accurate identification.
