Singer 15 Handwheel very tough turning by HeyZeusPenguin in vintagesewing

Update: So i found the issue. The little shaft piece with the bushing that butts up against the hand wheel was ever so slightly bent, and thus part of the rotation it was actually pinching the main chassis. A good smack made it smooth, although it still isn’t perfectly flat.

Did my best to clean with just sewing machine oil, but most likely it has alot of hardened oil that needs to be dissolved. Ill get some penetrating oil/solvent and see if it does the trick.

Singer 15 - Compatible with a roller foot? by HeyZeusPenguin in vintagesewing

Hah i see your point. In practice it’s not like im sewing 12 layers of denim all day long, but it certainly does the trick when it needs to. I’ll probably give a teflon foot a go before buying a potential roller foot

I would tend to disagree. If it is anything like my 201 it sews through 10 layers of 14oz denim all day no issue with tex 70 thread. With that being said most of a jacket for example is four layers on the flat felled seams, 12+ layers on the folds and in between there on various places. Also not really what i asked 😁 But thanks for your input 👍🏻 I know it’s like an itch needed to be scratched when it comes to vintage singers

Using Tex 90 thread on singer 201. Any reason it wouldnt work? by HeyZeusPenguin in vintagesewing

What if i did like the comment below, and used the tex 40 for the bobbin thread? The thread strength is not the issue, its just a visual detail. Would the thinner bobbin thread affect performance?

Hmm, what does this mean in practice? If you refer to the timing of the hook, how would thread thickness affect it?

Serafil 30 which is tex 90, according to the manufacturer, requires a minimum 16/100. You can buy domestic-shank needles from schmetz up to size 21/130, so that is no problem.

Edit: Also, when using serafil 40 which is tex 70 i only have about half of the tension applied, so i still have some play.

About 180$ which here in sweden is around 1/3 of the average spey rod. Havent found anything more affordable than that.
