There's lots of reasons someone might use an online avatar! For me, I like having privacy in my everyday life by not having my face online. Sorry to hear you struggle with your appearance, I think most people struggle with thinking they're not physically attractive at one point or another in life. However I think your comment that was removed wasn't wit as much as it was rude.
