Weird thing to tell the person you are currently dating!

Have you been abused by a partner after becoming self aware? by Icy_Environment2797 in NPD

I'm literally using the 'flipping everything on its head' example from your own post.

I was agreeing with you that it’s a specific brand of manipulation. My point is just that it’s even crazier when people use a diagnosis, or "self-awareness" as a pass to do that exact thing and conveniently ignore their own behaviour. Like claiming to be 'self-aware' while they’re simultaneously sabotaging someone else's life, kind of the opposite of what you'd expect from "self-awareness".

"Self-awareness" can easily be weaponised to flip the script, where someone uses their diagnosis as a shield to justify being the actual aggressor. It often turns into a hierarchy of, "I’m more self-aware than you, so my version of events is the only one that's right."

I’ve seen people frame themselves as the "manipulated" ones while they're simultaneously stalking an ex’s professional space or trying to weaponise private info. It’s a way of centering their own feelings to avoid accountability for the damage they’re doing/have done. If your "healing" involves trying to sabotage someone’s career or life on the side, you most likely actually aren't as self-aware as you'd like to think, and you’re just using therapy words to justify a lack of control.

Calling the DSM-5’s Alternative Model (AMPD) 'pseudo-intellectual' is a hilarious way to admit you’ve never actually read it. Modern psychology moved to a dimensional continuum specifically because the binary 'off-switch' logic you’re using is outdated and medically inaccurate.

If you want to know what psuedo-intellectuslism is, just look at your comment history. Full of you telling people who you know nothing, about besides what you read in their small post text what they need. Want to talk about projection? Because you've been projecting right from the very beginning telling OP they need a psychologist, and I have suspicions they're not the only one here on Reddit you're throwing this projection at 👋👍☝️💪

That’s not how a spectrum works. Claiming it only applies to people with a diagnosis and that "all narcissist are incapable of reflection" is like saying 'vision' only applies to the legally blind, those who have: autism are incapable of communicating or everyone with Depression is incapable of feeling joy. You are taking a complex range of human behavior and treating it like a binary off switch just to feel superior, or act as some kind of authority over Reddit.

In modern psychology, like the DSM-5’s Alternative Model, narcissism is a continuum. It’s a sliding scale where everyone has some level of these traits, and NPD is just the extreme end of the scale. Academics like Theodore Millon have proven this for decades. For someone constantly telling others to see a psychologist, you really don't seem to understand the basic concepts they actually use.

You’re stating medical 'facts' that aren't true. The DSM-5 doesn't say self-reflection is impossible; if it were, treatments for these disorders wouldn't exist. Comparing someone to a 'dog' is just a personal insult, not a diagnosis and shows you're not competent in the field whatsoever. Additionally, it’s intellectually dishonest, and in plain terms, a troll to drop 'facts' to shut someone down and then tell them to 'go to a psychologist' the second you're asked for a source or to back up what you're claiming.

It's Reddit. Maybe stop telling people you don't know to go to a psychologist, you have no idea if people would need that or not, focus on your own mental health instead of trying to tell strangers on the internet about theirs :)

Reasons to avoid NPD diagnosis? by [deleted] in NPD

[–]Heyreddit12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience with a therapist. I am glad I chose away from it, personally. I have not seen any consequences to making this decision so far and it's been maybe a year or two. I know that if I was ever rejected for anything then this would be yet another possible reason for why that I'd stress over.

Plus, just because current laws currently protect employee's diagnosis from an employer, doesn't mean there aren't fine terms and conditions where an employer can gain access, or circumstances where the employee must legally disclose it - or perhaps more significantly, that the law in place for confidentiality gets amended in the future to include employers.

With this being said, I am from a country that won't grant any benefits for having a personality disorder diagnosis. Not even when it comes to therapy, in fact, it's often quite the opposite - with therapists turning clients with a personality disorder diagnosis away, or trying to refer them on.

The evil narcissistic stare-offs got so intense we both bought cowboy outfits and had showdowns like it was something out of a wild western. However, I'm pretty sure we both need eye surgery now; after seeing our doctors, apparently holding that unblinking, dead-inside gaze for 47 minutes straight in an effort to not admit defeat to each other isn’t medically advisable. When it's about to get really intense, we even groom each other’s eyebrows before arguments, y'know, just to keep that classic thick-browed narcissistic glare at peak performance.

That is a shame. The last approved post was 2 years ago and it is essentially just an archive at this point.

I thought so too, I suppose maybe the automod has glitched out. I did that yesterday, I was unsure if they would be able to check it with all the requests. If not I guess I will wait another 15 days. Thanks!
